It is especially important for foreign drivers to take these rules into account in order to avoid fines and ensure peace of mind in unforeseen situations. Let's look at the main aspects of car insurance for foreigners.

General rules of car insurance for foreigners

To drive a car on Ukrainian roads, every driver is required to have a valid policy of compulsory motor third party liability insurance (MTPL). However, this insurance is not mandatory for foreign drivers if their vehicle is not registered in Ukraine and they are entering the country for a short period of time.

It should also be borne in mind that MTPL only covers damage caused to third parties and does not protect the owner's car from damage, theft or other risks. For these purposes, there is additional insurance, such as hull insurance and its simplified version - mini-hull insurance. We will tell you more about the second option.

Mini-hull insurance is a profitable solution for foreigners in Ukraine

For a temporary stay in Ukraine or as additional protection for a car with foreign registration, mini-hull insurance is the best choice. This type of insurance is beneficial due to its reduced cost and fairly broad coverage.

Mini-hull insurance is a simplified form of car insurance that covers specific risks. Unlike full hull insurance, a mini hull insurance policy provides a more affordable price while maintaining protection against key threats.

What does mini hull insurance cover?

On the Visit Ukraine website, you can buy mini hull insurance with different coverage. Three packages are currently available to customers:

● Economy: compensation for losses in the event of an accident involving another car;

● Basic: coverage of losses in the event of an accident with another vehicle and indemnity in the event of complete destruction of the car due to natural disasters;

● Maximum + war risks: includes coverage under the Economy and Basic packages and additionally includes protection against passive war risks and coverage for tow truck services.

This insurance can be taken out for a period of 1 month to 1 year. Thus, this type of insurance will be the best choice for all drivers who are looking for basic protection at a reasonable price and do not want to overpay for full CASCO coverage.

Please note that mini hull insurance cannot be taken out for the following cars

- cars older than 10 years and/or those with any additional equipment installed in the vehicle;

- cars used to ensure participation in military operations and those related to any volunteer, military, humanitarian formations, etc;

- technically defective at the time of insurance or not registered;

- vehicles of Russian and/or Chinese manufacture.

The price of this insurance depends on its validity period and the type of vehicle.

For example, if you want to insure a car for 1 month, the cost of mini hull insurance will be as follows:

🔻 Economy package - UAH 750 (about $18);

🔻 Basic package - UAH 1350 (about $33);

🔻 Package Maximum + military risks - 2750 UAH (about 66 dollars).
