Western Europe in anticipation of a powerful Eovin storm: which countries are at risk and what to prepare for

Several European countries may soon face a devastating storm that is approaching the western part of the EU. Find out how severe the disaster could be and what recommendations you should follow
Storm Eowyn is approaching the western borders of Europe, bringing with it hurricane-force winds, dangerous rainfall and significant risks to life and property. Forecasters are paying particular attention to the UK, Ireland and the northern regions of France, where the greatest impact of the weather bomb may be observed.
UK: red alert and tornado risk
A rare red alert has been issued in a number of regions of the UK due to the high probability of several tornadoes occurring at once. This is the most serious signal issued by the country's Met Office, which implies ‘significant disruption to travel, energy supply, and possible widespread damage to property and infrastructure’.
What is happening and when should we expect the disaster to strike?
Northern Ireland: the storm's worst effects are expected between 7am and 2pm on Friday.
Scotland: strong wind gusts are possible from 10am to 5pm on Friday.
Meteorologists warn of an explosive cyclogenesis (weather bomb), during which wind gusts can reach 145 km/h (90 mph), accompanied by showers and snow.
Thousands of schools are likely to be closed and some businesses may be shut down. Drivers are urged to refrain from travelling by car, especially over long distances.
In addition, rail services in a number of areas will be temporarily suspended. A series of yellow warnings have also been issued due to the risk of injury and threat to life.
Ireland: the highest level of danger
According to local meteorological services, the peak of the Eowyn storm's activity on the island of Ireland is expected to be on Friday, 24 January.
What do the forecasts say?
- Wind gusts may reach 161 km/h.
- Northern Ireland and Ireland have been placed on red alert, the highest possible level.
- Schools and universities are advised to close and public transport is suspended.
- Local residents are advised not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary.

France: on the fringes of the storm, but with a threat
France, according to La Chaîne Météo, is relatively away from the main impact of the weather bomb, but the north and north-west of the country may still be heavily affected by the Eovine storm between Thursday and Friday.
What to expect?
- Strong winds are likely to reach 80-90 km/h on the English Channel coast on Thursday and Friday.
- In the rest of the country, heavy rains and a drop in temperature are possible.
Recommendations for Ukrainians
❗️ Follow official warnings from local authorities and meteorologists - BBC, Met Office, Météo-France, etc.
❗️ Make sure you have all the necessary supplies: check for flashlights, water, food and charged phones.
❗️ Keep a distance from power lines and trees. Falling branches or broken wires can be a deadly trap.
❗️ Avoid open spaces during strong gusts of wind, do not leave cars under old trees or near old structures.
