Foreigners who wish to settle in the Republic of Moldova for a period of more than 90 days can apply for the right to temporary residence.
The right to temporary residence may be granted for the purpose of:
family reunion;
work;
training;
project implementation;
performing humanitarian, volunteer, or religious activities;
long-term treatment;
foreign investors;
victims of human trafficking.
To obtain the right of residence, foreigners must personally appear at the single window of registration of foreigners (Chisinau, Stefan cel Mare Boulevard, 124) or at one of the regional documentation services of foreigners with a completed and signed application for granting the right of residence and the corresponding set of supporting documents (original and copy), at least 30 days before the end of the period of legal residence in the Republic of Moldova.
The deadline for consideration of an application for granting/extending the right to temporary residence is 30 days. This period may be reduced to 10 days at the request of the alien with the payment of fees established to speed up the examination of the application in this regard.
On the basis of a decision granting the right of residence, a temporary residence permit is issued to a foreigner, which is a document certifying the identity of a foreigner residing in the Republic of Moldova.

A permanent residence permit can be obtained by foreigners who have the right to temporary residence (3 years in the case of a foreigner married to a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, or 5 years - for other categories), with the exception of foreigners studying, persons holding senior positions in a legal entity with activities in the field of Information Technology and information technology specialists, second-time employees, foreigners engaged in investment projects of national significance, employees of residents of Free Economic Zones, foreigners engaged in foreign aid projects, foreigners engaged in humanitarian and volunteer activities.
Conditions for granting a permanent residence permit:
having a temporary residence permit;
arrangement of living space;
proficiency in the state language at a satisfactory level (Certificate of the Ministry of Education on knowledge of the state language);
had no criminal record for the last 3 years.
What documents are needed to obtain the right to permanent residence if a foreigner is married to a citizen of the Republic of Moldova:
1. An application form;
2. Original and copy of the National Passport;
3. Original and copy of the residence permit;
4. Original and copy of the marriage certificate;
5. Original and copy of a valid identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Moldova;
6. Original and copy of the child's birth certificate (if any);
7. Original certificate of state language proficiency issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture and research, or certificate of study issued by an educational institution with instruction in Romanian;
8. The certificate of non-criminal record issued in the country of origin and translated into the state language and notarized or consular certified;
9. Original and copy of the document certifying the right of ownership or use of housing (ownership agreement or lease agreement);
10. An original and copy of the health insurance policy;

What documents are needed for obtaining the right to permanent residence (original and copy) for a foreigner from other categories:
1. An application form;
2. Original and copy of the National Passport;
3. Original and copy of the residence permit;
4. Original and copy of the company's constituent documents (extract from the State Register of legal entities, license for the type of activity);
5. Original certificate of state language proficiency issued by the Ministry of Education, Culture and research, or certificate of study issued by an educational institution with instruction in Romanian;
6. The certificate of non-criminal record issued in the country of origin and translated into the state language and notarized or consular certified;
7. Original and copy of the document certifying the right of ownership or use of housing (ownership agreement or lease agreement);
8. Original and copy of the health insurance policy;
9. Original and a copy of the confirmation of the availability of sufficient funds for accommodation;
10. The confirmation of social, salary and tax contributions for the last 5 years of activity in the Republic of Moldova.

Documents are submitted 90 days before the expiration of the residence permit. Failure to comply with the deadline for submitting an application entails an administrative penalty.

Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova is acquired:
1) by birth;
2) due to recognition;
3) due to adoption;
4) by restoring citizenship;
5) in the order of naturalization.
