Can I travel to San Marino with pets? What documents are needed?
Yes, you can travel to San Marino with pets, but there are a few requirements:
- The animal must be microchipped.
- Veterinary passport with all necessary vaccinations, including rabies vaccination.
- Veterinary health certificate issued no later than 10 days before the trip.
Do I need to take out health insurance when I travel to San Marino?
Yes, health insurance is compulsory for traveling to San Marino. Since the country is part of the Schengen area via Italy, you need to have an insurance policy that will cover medical services in case of unforeseen situations. You can get a reliable health insurance on the Visit Ukraine website at this link, which guarantees your safety during your trip.
How much money do you need to enter San Marino in 2026?
Since San Marino does not have separate controls and you are entering via Italy/the Schengen area, you must have proof of sufficient financial means in accordance with Schengen border requirements. The general “indicative reference amounts” that apply for entry via Italy are: ≈ €269.60 per person for stays of up to 5 days, or ≈ €44.93 per day for stays of 6-10 days (amounts may vary depending on the length of the trip and are shown as a guideline for border control).
These requirements are not the “official fixed amount for San Marino” but part of the rules for proving sufficient funds to enter the Schengen area (Italy), through which tourists enter San Marino.
How do I travel to San Marino by car?
Traveling by car to San Marino takes place through the territory of Italy, so you need to have a valid international driver's license and car documents. You should also follow the traffic rules of Italy, in particular, the speed limit and the use of seat belts for all passengers.
What should I do if my passport has expired? Can I cross the border without a biometric passport?
As of October 29, 2025, Ukraine has abolished the military rule of extending the validity of foreign passports and adding information about children to them. Now, traveling abroad is only possible with a valid biometric passport.
This means that if your passport has been “extended” or information about children has been added to it, you need to apply for a new biometric foreign passport.
Where to apply for a new passport
- In Ukraine: at the State Migration Service, Administrative Service Centers, or branches of the State Enterprise “Document.”
- Abroad: at Ukrainian embassies or consulates, or at branches of the State Enterprise ‘Document’ if they operate in your country.
If you are abroad and have an “extended” passport
If you are not allowed to leave the country or enter Ukraine because of your “extended” passport, contact the nearest Ukrainian embassy or consulate.
There you can obtain an identity card for returning to Ukraine (a so-called “white passport”). It is issued on the day of application — free of charge for children under 16 and for a consular fee for adults.
