A new type of fuel has appeared at Polish gas stations. What are the advantages and who can use it?

In recent years, road transport has been under unprecedented pressure to develop sustainably and to be responsible for preserving the planet and natural resources. A new type of fuel, HVO100, is now available at Polish gas stations. This is a biofuel made from vegetable oils and animal fats that has many advantages. Read more about it in the article below

A new type of fuel - HVO100 - has appeared at gas stations in Poland, in-poland.com reports. The Avia filling station chain was the first to offer this fuel at its stations in the country.

Here are the advantages of the new fuel and who should not use it.

New HVO100 fuel at Polish gas stations: what is known

It is noted that this innovative biofuel is rapidly gaining popularity due to its environmental characteristics and ability to work with modern diesel engines.

Orlen has also announced plans to sell this fuel and plans to start selling it at selected gas stations across the country in July this year.

What is HVO100?

HVO100, or hydrogenated vegetable oil, is a biofuel made from vegetable oils and animal fats. Its production involves a hydrotreating process that converts organic feedstocks into high-quality fuel.

This type of fuel differs from traditional biodiesel in its greater chemical and thermal stability, which increases performance and reduces engine wear.

The main advantage of HVO100 is its low carbon dioxide emissions. This fuel can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional diesel. In addition, HVO100 contains almost no sulfur, which reduces emissions of harmful sulfur oxides and particulate matter. As a result, HVO100 can help improve air quality and reduce smog in cities.

Finnish oil refiner Neste was one of the first to produce HVO on a large scale. The fuel has been produced in Europe since 2011 and is commercially used not only in Northern Europe, but also in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands and other European countries.

The new HVO100 fuel is more expensive than conventional diesel. At Avia stations, a liter of HVO100 costs PLN 8.99, while a liter of standard diesel costs PLN 6.14 and premium diesel costs PLN 6.34.

Which cars are suitable for the new type of fuel?

It is worth noting that HVO100 is not suitable for all cars. Only new models adapted to this type of fuel can use it. Older cars may experience performance issues, which is important for drivers planning to use HVO100 to avoid engine problems.

Experts predict that the popularity of HVO100 will grow, especially in the context of stricter environmental regulations and emission reductions.

Many countries are already supporting the development of biofuels through tax incentives and other forms of support. Poland, following this example, could become one of the leaders in the production and distribution of sustainable fuels in the region.

Remember!
In order to drive freely in Poland and 48 other countries of the world in a car with Ukrainian registration, the driver must have a Green Card insurance policy. The absence or delay of insurance is fraught not only with fines that are several dozen times higher than the cost of the insurance policy for a year, but also with the seizure of the car and deportation from the country with a subsequent entry ban. You can take out insurance for the required period on our website. Read more about the amount of fines in Europe for not having a Green Card here.

We remind you! The Polish Sejm has approved amendments to the law on assistance to refugees from Ukraine. Among other things, they provide for changes in the rules for extending temporary protection. Read what rules will apply and how Ukrainians can extend their protection and stay in Poland in our previous article.
