Social and medical assistance to Ukrainians with temporary protection abroad
Ukrainians who left for EU countries because of the war can receive full assistance in case of illness and use the public health care systems of the host member state. EU countries ensure that persons benefiting from temporary protection receive assistance in terms of social security and, if necessary, means of livelihood.
Medical care for Ukrainians abroad
If necessary, citizens of Ukraine who have the status of temporary protection can apply for help to medical institutions in the host country. If you are fully covered by the public health system of your country of residence, you will be entitled to a European Health Insurance Card. It gives the right to medical assistance during a temporary stay also in another EU country.
10,000 hospital beds have been prepared to provide specialized hospital treatment and urgent medical care for Ukrainians in the EU. Also, Ukrainians have the opportunity to make scheduled vaccinations for children and receive psychological support.

Treatment of patients with rare diseases
Ukrainians who have moved to the EU and have rare diseases can also count on medical assistance.
The European Reference Networks (ERN) for rare and complex diseases specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases in almost all fields of medicine, including rare cancers.
ERN centers are located in more than 300 hospitals in EU countries. More information on rare disease care can be found here.
We will remind you! Ukrainians can take out health insurance online even while abroad. Read about how to do it at the link.
