The Austrian capital has stepped up verification of social assistance recipients. In this regard, payments have been temporarily suspended. This was reported by Martina Plochowitz, head of one of the departments of the Vienna Social Fund (FSW), according to wien.orf.

What is known about the inspections?

According to Plochowitz, several hundred cases are currently being checked, including the facts of the recipients' departure abroad.

We will have to temporarily suspend the payment of basic social benefits and then resume their payment. These cases are currently under review and should be completed within a few weeks. Payments will be made when there is a real need for assistance,’ she explained.

An additional requirement for payments is registration with the employment service. Deductions are made for people who have caregiving responsibilities or are elderly.

It is noted that there are currently 14,000 Ukrainians in Vienna on ‘basic care’, a quarter of whom are minors. And about 8,000 people are able-bodied. The verification is promised to be completed as soon as possible.

Problems with payments in Vienna

The media, referring to information from humanitarian organisations, write that refugees have not been paid since December last year. People are forced to come for free lunches.

People who have settled in the private sector, renting accommodation, are paid 260 euros for food and hygiene products as a subsidy, and children receive 145 euros each.

If you are facing any problems in migration matters, you can get a consultation with specialised lawyers right now. Our professionals will help you with a wide range of issues.

We remind you! Austria is planning to deprive refugees who own cars of the right to basic assistance starting this year. This decision has drawn sharp criticism from human rights activists who call it discriminatory.
