Direct Train from Prague to Copenhagen: A New Rail Route Through Europe Without Transfers or Flights
A new direct train connects Prague, Berlin, Hamburg, and Copenhagen without any transfers. Learn more about the schedule, travel time, and why this route is becoming an alternative to air travel in Europe
Rail travel in Europe is gaining popularity once again—and a new international route is only reinforcing this trend. A direct service launched on May 1, connecting Prague, Berlin, Hamburg, and Copenhagen in a single, seamless journey without transfers. According to Euronews, this is the first route of its kind in over a decade to directly link these key European cities.
What is known about the new route?
The new rail route has already become a convenient option for traveling through Northern and Central Europe:
two daily trains run between Prague and Hamburg
one of the trains continues on to Copenhagen
an evening train is added during the summer season
stops are scheduled in Dresden and Berlin
The route allows passengers to travel non-stop through several countries, significantly saving time and reducing travel stress.

Travel time
Prague → Hamburg— approximately 6 hours 40 minutes
Prague → Copenhagen — just over 13 hours
This makes the train a competitive option even compared to flights, considering the time needed for airport transfers and security checks.
The route is served by new-generation ComfortJet trains, designed to carry over 500 passengers. The cars feature a restaurant, reliable Wi-Fi, relaxation areas and spaces for traveling with children, bike racks, and full accessibility for people with disabilities. This format makes the journey part of the travel experience, rather than just a means of getting to the destination.
The launch was made possible through the collaboration of three rail operators—České dráhy, Deutsche Bahn, and Danske Statsbaner. Infrastructure upgrades, particularly on the section between Berlin and Hamburg, played a key role in making the service faster and more reliable.
A Step Toward Sustainable Travel
The new route is already being hailed as a significant step in the development of eco-friendly transportation in Europe. Traveling by train has a lower environmental impact, does not require the complex procedures found at airports, and allows for a more leisurely pace of travel.
In this way, Europe continues to develop an alternative to short-haul flights, focusing on a combination of speed, convenience, and environmental friendliness.
