Rules of entry to Kyrgyzstan for Ukrainians
What documents are required to enter Kyrgyzstan?
To enter Kyrgyzstan, citizens of Ukraine need only a valid foreign passport with an ‘expiry date’ at least 6 months after the day you arrive. No other permits or visas are required.
Similar rules apply to children. Children must have their own passports, but a separate notarized consent of the other parent is not required for them to travel with one parent (in martial law). Consent is required only if the child is traveling with other relatives or friends.
How much money do you need to have to cross the border?
Kyrgyzstan does not set a minimum amount of funds that must be carried upon entry. However, cash in excess of $10,000 or its equivalent must be declared when crossing the border.
What to do if your passport expires
As of October 29, 2025, Ukraine has abolished the military rule that allowed passport holders to extend the validity of their passports and add information about their children to them.
Now, only valid biometric passports are accepted for travel abroad.
Therefore, if your document has been “extended” or information about children has been added to it, you must apply for a new biometric passport.
Where can you apply for a new passport?
- In Ukraine — at the offices of the State Migration Service, the Administrative Service Centers, or the branches of the State Enterprise “Document.”
- Abroad — at Ukrainian embassies or consulates, as well as at branches of the State Enterprise “Document” if they operate in your country.
If you are abroad and have an “extended” passport
If the border service of another country does not allow you to leave or does not accept your document when entering Ukraine, contact the nearest Ukrainian embassy or consulate.
There you can obtain an identity card for returning to Ukraine (the so-called “white passport”).
It is issued on the day of application — free of charge for children under 16 and for a consular fee for adults.
Can I travel to Kyrgyzstan with pets? What documents are required for the animal?
Ukrainian tourists can travel to Kyrgyzstan with pets, but a number of requirements must be met:
- A veterinary passport with marks of up-to-date vaccinations, in particular against rabies (the vaccination must be made no earlier than 30 days and no later than 12 months before entry).
- A health certificate for the animal issued no earlier than 5 days before crossing the border.
- Some dog breeds may be subject to additional restrictions, so before traveling, check with the relevant Kyrgyz authorities to see if additional documents are required for a particular breed of animal.
Do I need to have health insurance to travel to Kyrgyzstan?
Although health insurance is not required to enter Kyrgyzstan, it is highly recommended. The cost of medical services for foreigners can be quite high, and high-quality insurance will protect you from unexpected financial expenses in case of illness or accident while traveling.
💡 You can take out reliable travel insurance quickly and conveniently on the Visit Ukraine website. The policy provides full medical coverage and guarantees peace of mind during your trip.
Do I need a special currency declaration upon entry?
Foreign citizens can import any currency without restrictions, but amounts exceeding 10 thousand US dollars or the equivalent in another currency must be declared at the border. It is worth remembering that a mandatory declaration of funds is required only for amounts exceeding this limit.
What is the best way to get to Kyrgyzstan from Ukraine?
Due to the war in Ukraine, there are currently no flights, so direct flights to Kyrgyzstan are not available. However, there are convenient alternative routes with transfers. The most popular ones are as follows:
- By bus or train to Poland or other neighboring countries from which flights are available. The most convenient destinations for departure are cities in Poland, Hungary, Romania or Moldova. You can travel by train or bus to these countries, from where there are regular flights to Kyrgyzstan with connections.
- Transfer via Istanbul (Turkey). After leaving Ukraine, you can get to Istanbul by land from neighboring countries or by air from major cities such as Warsaw, Chisinau, Budapest, etc. Istanbul is one of the largest transportation hubs with regular flights to the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek.
- Route through the Caucasus - Tbilisi or Yerevan. There are flights to Bishkek from Yerevan or Tbilisi, which often have affordable prices. If you travel to these cities from neighboring countries of Ukraine (Moldova or Romania), you can then transfer to a flight to Kyrgyzstan.
