History of Vytachiv - places of power over the Dnieper
Vytachiv is one of the oldest settlements on the Dnieper. Archaeologists date its foundation back to the 4th century, and the first written mentions appear already in the 10th century. During the time of Kievan Rus, it was an important port on the legendary trade route “from the Varangians to the Greeks”
According to the chronicles, it was here that in 1100 a princely congress took place with the participation of Vladimir Monomakh and Svyatopolk. Later, the city lost its importance and was destroyed during the Mongol invasion in 1240.
Today, the mounds and remains of settlements scattered around the village remind of its ancient greatness. One of the most interesting objects is Mount Krasukha, one of the highest points of the Dnieper Cliffs, about 191 meters high.

The nature of Vytachiv is an ideal place for a retreat
The Dnieper in the Vytachiv district looks especially majestic. The slopes offer wide views of the river, islands and endless horizons. It was these landscapes, according to legend, that inspired Taras Shevchenko – he often visited here and even dreamed of settling nearby.
Today it is an ideal place for those who want to “recharge”: walk along the slopes, meet the sunset or just sit in silence without the city noise.

Symbols of Vytachyov - a chapel and a mill
The wooden Cossack chapel, built in 1991 based on Shevchenko's sketches, deserves special attention. It became part of the philosophical project “Ukrainian Spiritual Republic”, which was initiated by the writer and thinker Oles Berdnyk. This chapel and other objects around it were built by Berdnyk himself, but his further plans were not destined to be realized due to deteriorating health.
There is also a wooden mill nearby - another recognizable symbol of the location. Together they create an atmosphere where history, culture and spirituality are combined.
How did an abandoned place become a tourist magnet?
Just 10-15 years ago, these slopes were almost forgotten: without infrastructure, roads and proper care. The turning point was the initiative of the local Sobko family, which gradually began to restore the territory. They repaired architectural objects and infrastructure in Vytachev with their own efforts and at their own expense, and as a result, Vytachev got a new life - tourists started coming here, basic infrastructure appeared, and most importantly - the culture of recreation changed.
Over time, tourists began knocking on the door of Oleksandr and Iryna Sobko and asking if there was a cafe or souvenir shop here, and then the family had the idea to build a bakery “Vytachev” here, which would correspond to the spirit of this place.

Bakery – the heart of Vytachiv
They built the bakery on their own and planned to open it by Easter 2022, but a full-scale war interfered with the plans and the owners of the bakery decided to open earlier in order to bake bread for the needs of the army and everyone who needed it on a volunteer basis.
Nowadays, the Vytach bakery has become a real magnet for guests, because they bake sourdough bread in a wood-fired oven according to old recipes.
The aroma of fresh pastries, coffee and a view of the Dnieper is a simple formula for a perfect weekend that works without fail. Therefore, Vytachiv is not just a gastronomic spot, but a very atmospheric tourist destination
However, on Saturdays and Sundays it can be crowded, so if you want more silence, it is better to plan a trip on weekdays. Most people gather here in May-August, when the local slopes are covered with greenery and wildflowers.
How does the Vytachiv bakery work?
The Vytachiv bakery welcomes guests from 8:00 to 18:00 from Wednesday to Sunday.
Days off are Monday and Tuesday.
