Do Ukrainians need a visa to visit Canada?

Yes, Ukrainians need to obtain a visa to travel to Canada. Generally, such a visa allows you to stay in Canada for up to 6 months.

How to get a visa to Canada for Ukrainians in 2026?

1. Type of visa: The most common visa for short-term travel is a tourist (visitor) visa, which allows you to stay in Canada for up to 6 months. Other types of visas may include a student or work visa depending on your needs.

2. Submitting an application: You can apply for a visa online through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website or through a Canadian consulate. If you apply online, you will need to create an account, fill out the application form, and upload all the required documents.

3. Required documents:
- A valid passport.
- A standardized photo.
- Proof of sufficient financial resources.
- Documents confirming the purpose of the trip (hotel reservation, invitation, etc.).
- Payment of the visa fee.
- Biometric data (fingerprints and photo), which must be submitted to specialized centers.

4. Waiting for a response to the application: After submitting the application, you need to wait for a decision from the IRCC.

If your application is approved:
• Online application: You will receive 2 emails in your IRCC account:
- A letter with instructions on how to submit your passport.
- A letter with the approval decision. This answer does not yet allow you to travel to Canada - you must first obtain a visa in your passport, which you will submit to the relevant authorities.
• Paper application: After approval, you will be returned the original documents along with your passport, which will already have a visa in it.

If your application is rejected:
• Online application: You will receive a rejection decision in your IRCC account with an explanation of the reason.
• Paper application: You will be sent the refusal decision along with your passport and other original documents.

1. Documents required before traveling to Canada

In some cases, you will need to have additional documents when traveling to Canada:
• A child under 18 years of age: In Canada, people under the age of 18 are considered minors. If you are traveling with such a child, you may need additional documents, such as:
- A letter authorizing the child to travel to Canada.
- Documents related to guardianship or adoption if the child is traveling alone.
• Invitation letter: If you are invited by a person or company, bring the invitation letter with you as the border officer may ask to see it.


2. Arriving in Canada.

Having a visa and travel documents does not guarantee automatic entry into the country. When you arrive, the Border Patrol will check your identity to ensure that you meet the entry requirements.
• Airports: Your fingerprints will be automatically checked at the initial screening point.
• Land ports of entry: Your fingerprints may be checked if you are referred for secondary screening.

3. Basic requirements for entry to Canada for Ukrainians

To enter Canada, you must meet the basic requirements, including
• A valid passport.
• Good health condition.
• No criminal record or immigration violations.
• Proof that you will return to your home country (job, home, finances or family).
• Sufficient funds for your stay in Canada (the amount may vary depending on the length of stay and living conditions).

4. How much money do you need to cross the border?

When entering Canada, border services may check that you have sufficient financial resources to stay in the country. There is no officially established minimum amount, but in practice, it is recommended to have at least CAD 100 per day (≈ USD 75) and proof of paid accommodation and a return ticket.

If you are bringing in cash or financial instruments worth more than CAD 10,000, you must declare them.
