During the war, young people in Ukraine find themselves in a difficult and challenging situation. However, despite the difficulties, teenagers continue to strive for a peaceful and fulfilling life. Find out more about how Ukrainian youth are developing and what their plans for the future are
Life during the war is one of the most difficult challenges for any person. But the most difficult path is for young people who have just started their adult life and the war has taken away all the mechanisms they are used to. We will tell you what Ukrainian teenagers want and what their ambitions are in wartime.
It is obvious that young people in Ukraine want peace and stability. They want to live in a country without war and conflict, where they can build their future without constant fear and danger. They want education and development to be able to build a successful career and become useful members of society.
What have Ukrainian teenagers become afraid of?
At the same time, it should be understood that the war has changed Ukrainian youth much more than the coronavirus pandemic. According to a survey conducted by the Dobrodiyiv Club charitable foundation among citizens aged 13-19 across Ukraine, almost 40% of young people feel fear for their lives and health - their own and their loved ones' - because of the war.
Many of them report worrying about the uncertainty of the future, moving to other countries and cities, as well as power outages and the lack of stable communication (the survey was conducted in early February 2022, when power outages were still relevant).
At the same time, most young people say that music, socializing, social media, and walking help them to distract themselves from their fears and worries. Sports and computer games also help.
War has increased the level of courage of Ukrainian youth
After 15 months of war, Ukrainian teenagers have become bolder and more confident in themselves and the country. The war is the biggest focus of teenagers' experiences, but despite this, 93% of young people believe in their strength and are convinced that they are making efforts to realize themselves.
Even in times of complete instability, almost 70% know what they want to become in the future, and almost a quarter (23%) finally found what they want to do during a full-scale war.
The study also showed that teenagers who are currently staying in Ukraine are making this choice quite consciously. Even if their current experience is extremely difficult.
In addition, young people are already eager to be part of Ukraine's reconstruction - 90% of adolescents said they want to be useful in the country's post-war reconstruction. In particular, they want to be involved in the development of the economy and infrastructure, and they see their benefit, among other things, through volunteer work.

Young people believe in victory and plan for the future in Ukraine
The survey showed that 95% of young Ukrainians believe in the victory of their country, and 86% see their future in Ukraine.
It is also worth noting that most teenagers are ready to study in Ukraine and live in their homeland. At the same time, only 8% want to go abroad and stay there.
It is important that Ukrainian youth realize how important it is to help the army and their loved ones. For example, when asked, "If teenagers had a million dollars, what would they spend it on?", the answers were as follows:
- Helping the Armed Forces - 36%;
- family support - 24%;
- charity - 23%;
- hobbies, hobbies - 19%;
Given the results of the survey, we can conclude that the war is now intertwined with the lives of teenagers, constantly supporting their fear for the future and anxiety for themselves and their families.
It is also important to note that during the war, Ukrainian youth continue to strive for a better life, justice, and the development of their talents and skills. They are fighting for their rights, taking an active part in the social and political life of the country, and taking the initiative in solving the problems they face. Ukrainian youth are the hope and future of the country, and their ambitions and aspirations play an important role in shaping positive changes in society.
It should be noted that experts and the military have different predictions about when the war will end. Read here to find out what percentage of Ukrainian citizens believe that the war will end with our victory by 2024.
