Ukrzaliznytsia has announced changes to international train ticket prices. From 1 February 2025, travelling abroad will become more expensive, and the cost of some tickets will increase by more than a third. Find out more about the new fares and the reasons for the increase
Ukraine's rail passenger transportation will undergo significant changes in early 2025. Ukrzaliznytsia has announced a review of its tariff policy on international routes due to a significant increase in operating costs.
What innovations await those planning to travel to these destinations is described below.
Why are ticket prices rising?
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the company is forced to revise the amount of special discounts previously agreed with the railways of neighbouring countries to promote international connections. This decision was driven by a significant increase in energy and material costs.
Last year, losses from passenger traffic reached a record high of UAH 18 billion.
How will prices for popular routes from Ukraine to other countries change?
The biggest price increase will affect the Polish route.
From 1 February, the cost of tickets to Poland will increase as follows:
- in Intercity+ and SV 1st class carriages - by 20-27%;
- in compartment cars - by 9-27%.
As for specific routes, the most significant price increases are expected on the following routes:
- Kyiv - Warsaw - by 37%;
- Kyiv - Budapest - by 17% in SV carriages and by 21% in compartment carriages.
