The European Best Destinations platform has published a ranking of the best tourist destinations in Europe in 2026. Find out which places made it into the top 10 and what attracts travelers to them
Europe remains one of the most popular destinations for travelers from all over the world. Every year, travel industry experts and tourists themselves identify cities and regions that are worth visiting in the near future. In 2026, the European Best Destinations platform published a new ranking of the best places to travel in Europe, based on votes from travelers from 154 countries.
To form the list, experts analyzed more than 500 tourist destinations using Eurostat statistics on tourist flows, the popularity of places in search engines and social networks, as well as criteria for sustainable development, accessibility and support for local communities. After that, 20 finalists were put forward for an international vote, in which more than 1.3 million people took part. As a result, a list of the most interesting locations for travel in 2026 was formed - from large cultural capitals to small atmospheric towns.
Below is a list of destinations that are worth adding to your tourist itinerary.
1st place – Madrid, Spain
The first place in the ranking was taken by the capital of Spain – Madrid. The city is known for its cultural energy, rich nightlife and a unique combination of history and modernity.
The heart of the cultural life of the capital is the so-called “Landscape of Light” – a museum district where the Prado Museum, Reina Sofia Museum and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum are located. This cultural complex is included in the UNESCO heritage list.
In addition to museums, tourists are attracted by green parks, in particular Retiro Park, lively squares, a gastronomic scene and traditional flamenco shows. Thanks to over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, the city is ideal for traveling at any time of the year.
