Work visa to Mauritius
Ukrainian citizens need to obtain a work visa to work legally in Mauritius, which is issued on the basis of a work permit. The visa allows you to legally live and work in the country for the duration of your employment contract. It can only be obtained with prior approval from the local authorities. It is not possible to arrive in Mauritius independently and find work without prior permission.
Work permit
Before applying for a visa, you must obtain one of the following work permits:
1. Occupation Permit (OP) — a combined work and residence permit. There are three subtypes:
- Professional — for employees (a job offer from an employer is required);
- Investor — for those who invest at least USD 50,000 in a local business;
- Self-Employed — for self-employed professionals (investment of at least USD 35,000).
2. Young Professional OP — for students who have completed their studies in Mauritius (valid for up to 3 years).
3. Work Permit + Residence Permit — a classic option for technical or blue-collar professions, issued separately.
What are the requirements for obtaining a work permit?
- An official job offer from a company in Mauritius;
- Salary of at least MUR 30,000 per month (may be higher depending on the industry);
- Diploma or document confirming qualifications;
- Work experience (usually 2+ years);
- Age up to 60 (exceptions possible);
- Medical certificate of health.
How can a Ukrainian citizen obtain a work permit and visa for Mauritius?
Step 1. Find an employer in Mauritius
You must sign a contract or receive an official job offer. The employer initiates the permit application process.
Step 2. Submit documents for an Occupation Permit
- The employer (or you, if you are an investor/freelancer) submits an online application here;
- Scanned copies of your passport, contract, diplomas, etc. must be attached;
The entire procedure is free of charge.
Step 3. Awaiting preliminary approval
The application review takes approximately 2–4 weeks. After that, you will receive a letter confirming your work permit.
Step 4. Arrival in Mauritius and visa processing
- After preliminary approval, you can fly to Mauritius;
- Present your confirmation of approval at border control.
- You will receive a work visa directly in your passport (or a card will be issued later).
- You will also undergo a medical examination on site if you have not done so in advance.
What documents are required to obtain a work visa for Mauritius?
- Foreign passport (valid for at least 6 months);
- Signed employment contract or letter of offer;
- Resume;
- Diplomas, certificates, documents confirming work experience;
- Health certificate (can be provided upon arrival);
- Passport photo;
- Work permit;
- Medical insurance;
- Completed online form;
- For some industries — licenses or professional permits.
How long is the work permit valid for?
The validity period is usually up to 3 years, with the possibility of extension. You can apply for permanent residence after 10 years of legal residence.
