Following a series of strikes at Germany's largest airports, operators have reached a deal with security staff. The German trade union Verdi has signed a wage agreement for about 25,000 employees to avoid further strikes that have paralyzed airport operations. This was reported by DW.

Strikes at German airports will finally end: what is known

It is noted that the agreement was reached after an arbitration process that began on April 5. Verdi said it would not demand further work stoppages from security service providers until the process is completed.

The committees of the BDLS employers' association and the union have until noon on April 9 to consider and accept or reject the arbitration recommendation. BDLS said that the recommendation calls for a wage increase from 13.1% to 15.1% over 15 months.

Verdi's representative in the negotiations, Wolfgang Pieper, said that among the issues under discussion are wage increases and bonuses for coaches and managers.

As you know, in March, Lufthansa and Verdi reached an agreement on the salaries of ground staff at German airports, which helped to avoid possible strikes during the Easter holidays.

Strikes in Europe: details

Demands for wage increases in the face of persistent inflation have led to a series of disruptive and costly strikes in the aviation and rail transport sectors in Germany, Europe's largest economy. The protests led to the paralyzation of 11 airports across the country and a significant impact on air traffic in March this year.

In particular, from the end of 2023 to the beginning of 2024, numerous strikes of transport workers continued in Germany, which directly affected passenger transportation in the country.
