On the eve of Ukraine's Independence Day, which is celebrated on August 24, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv warned its citizens about a possible increase in the number of attacks on Ukrainian territory by russia.

“The U.S. Embassy in Kyiv assesses that over the next few days and over the weekend, the risk of both night and daytime attacks by russian drones and missiles across Ukraine will increase in connection with Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24,” the diplomatic mission said in a statement.

How to protect yourself from additional risks and act in an unforeseen situation is described in the article below.

The threat of increased attacks on the eve of the holiday: what to do in case of danger?

As Ukraine approaches an important date - Independence Day - there is a possibility that the number of attacks by russian forces on Ukrainian cities will increase. That is why it is important to be prepared and cautious.

Recommendations for citizens: how to prepare?

1. Follow the information from local media, depending on the city you are in. Always respond to reports of an increased risk of danger or changes in the situation.
2. Determine in advance the places of shelter near your home, work or other locations where you plan to stay for the holiday. In the event of an air raid alert, immediately go to the nearest safe place.
3. Check whether the curfew time in the region of your stay has changed. Read more about all the peculiarities of curfews in Ukraine in this article.

4. Take out medical insurance that covers war-related risks for yourself and insurance with similar coverage for your car to make sure that in case of an emergency, you can receive medical and financial assistance or reimbursement.

5. Always carry your passport or other identification documents with you.
6. It is also a good idea to prepare other important things that you may need during long air alerts (water, snacks, flashlight, power bank, and whistle).
7. Make sure you have the Air Alert app installed on your smartphone (you can download it from the App Store or Google Play).

What to do in case of an air raid or explosions in your city?

1. Immediately after the announcement of the danger, take your documents and go to the nearest shelter. Do not leave the bomb shelter or other safe place until the threat is over.
2. Follow the messages of the local EMA and SES and, in case of danger or emergency, strictly follow the instructions of Ukrainian authorities and rescuers.
3. Do not take photos or videos of the consequences of russian attacks, and do not post them online. By doing so, you are helping the enemy to adjust its attacks.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine are doing their best to warn the population about threats and repel enemy attacks, but your safety also depends on you. Do not ignore the warnings and be vigilant, try to remain calm in critical situations and believe in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

We remind you! On August 24, Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day. Over the past 2 years, the words “independence of Ukraine” have become a symbol of dignity, resilience and struggle for the whole world. Read more about the locations worth visiting before or after the holiday here.
