In Ukraine, the program of free exchange of old incandescent lamps for new ones will soon start, which is being implemented thanks to grant support from the EU. Learn more about exchange terms
Ukrainians will be able to exchange old incandescent lamps for new LED ones free of charge. This will be possible thanks to EU grant support for the provision of 30 million LED lamps to Ukraine.
As First Vice Prime Minister — Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyridenko noted, such a step will help reduce energy consumption and balance the system.
She also emphasized that replacing power lamps with energy-saving lamps can help Ukraine consume 7-10% less electricity during peak hours. In particular, the Government plans to exchange 50 million lamps, which will save 1 GW of electricity - the annual production volume of a nuclear power plant unit.
In which cities will it be possible to exchange old lamps for LEDs?
First, the initiative will be launched in large cities - Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Dnipro. That is where the most electricity is consumed.
In the future, the program will spread throughout the country.
Who can exchange incandescent lamps for new LED ones?
It is preliminarily assumed that every person over the age of 18 will have the right to exchange 5 old lamps for 5 new LED ones free of charge.
This will make it possible to save up to 1.5 gigawatts of electricity during peak times.
According to Ukrenergo estimates, such a measure is comparable in terms of effectiveness to the transfer of the largest industrial consumers to night shifts.
The Government is currently finalizing a mechanism to simplify the process as much as possible to change the large number of light bulbs across the country as quickly as possible.
How and when will it be possible to exchange old incandescent lamps for LED lamps?
It will be possible to do this at Ukrposhta branches from January 1, 2023. Before the exchange, it will also be possible to leave a request through "Diia".
The Ministry of Economy says that replacing 50 million light bulbs can save the operation of one reactor with a capacity of 1 MW.
From January 16, beta testing of the program for free exchange of old incandescent lamps for LED lamps will begin.
At the first stage, it is planned to replace up to 500,000 lamps in six regions. After that, the project will be launched throughout the territory of Ukraine.
You can take part in two ways: with a pre-order through "Diia" and without it.
• If you pre-order lamps through "Diia", they are guaranteed to be at the Ukrposhta branch that you indicated during the order. You can pick up new lamps within 5 working days after confirmation in the application.
• If you do not have the opportunity to order lamps online, you can come to the Ukrposhta branch with your passport, identification code and incandescent lamps. However, without prior notification, you cannot be absolutely sure of the presence of LED lamps in the department.
Stay tuned so you don't miss out on signing up for the beta test and launching the service in "Diia".
