Citizens of Ukraine who have a child born abroad can issue a foreign passport to their child without returning to Ukraine. Find out more about how to do this
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, many children have been born abroad. Parents of young Ukrainians are interested in obtaining a passport abroad, as for many, coming to Ukraine is a complicated process.
We will tell you what steps you need to take to get a passport for a child born outside Ukraine.
Explanation of the State Migration Service of Ukraine
The child's parents can submit all the necessary documents to obtain the document without the child's presence. This can be done at the Passport Service centers and at foreign diplomatic missions.
See the list of countries and addresses of passport offices here.
If the child will not be present in person when submitting the documents, you need to have a 10*15 cm photo of the child.
Another requirement is to provide an officially translated and notarized birth certificate if it was not issued in Ukraine. It should be added that sometimes you may be asked to affix an apostille to the certificate to legalize it.

Requirements for parents
The mother's passport must be valid. If it has expired or does not contain a photo, you can simultaneously apply for an ID card for the mother and a passport for the child. It is convenient to do this at the Passport Service centers.
A child can obtain a Ukrainian passport even if his or her father is a foreigner. However, you must first obtain a certificate of registration as a citizen of Ukraine from a diplomatic mission. Once you have this certificate, you can apply for a passport both at a diplomatic mission and at the Passport Service centers.
The cost of issuing a passport for a child
A child's passport costs the same as an adult passport. In the Migration Service units, the price is:
• 856 UAH for a standard application;
• 1496 UAH for an urgent application.
In the Passport Service centers, the cost is higher because they charge a service fee.
We remind you! Recently, the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories announced that parents of foreign-born children can receive assistance from the state remotely. Find out how to do this in our article.
