For more than 500 days, Ukraine has been fighting for its right to a free and independent life. Find out why the war against russia has become unique and what is the phenomenon of the Ukrainian struggle
Yesterday marked the 500th day since the beginning of the russian invasion of Ukraine. For five hundred days, Ukrainians have been fighting for their independence and a free life. At the same time, today's war is not only the desperate heroism of the Ukrainian people, but also a unique precedent in world history, full of phenomena and paradoxes.
To mark the five hundredth day of the invasion, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Hanna Malyar published 10 facts about Ukraine's war of liberation on her Telegram channel. Here is what makes the russian-Ukrainian war unprecedented.
Fact №1. Scale and intensity
The experience of the Ukrainian army is unique - no other modern army has such a military practice. 8 years and 500 days: Europe has not seen such a long and intense war since the end of World War II.
By the way, Ukraine is now doing what NATO was created to do. Read how the country is fighting on the battlefield and on the diplomatic front.
Fact №2. The war of drones
The next fact that makes the Ukrainian struggle unique is the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. As Anna Malyar wrote, Ukrainians were the first to massively use attack quadcopters and FPV drones. The number of unmanned vehicles integrated into the Armed Forces is exceptional, as UAVs are used at all stages of combat operations.

Fact №3. Defenders of the sky
The incredible defenders of the Ukrainian sky are the first in the world to combine Soviet and modern systems, aircraft and groups of portable air defense systems.
The air defense system destroys almost 90% of the targets attacked by the enemy. Thanks to their high efficiency, Ukrainians were able to survive May, which was one of the most intense months in terms of shelling.
Read more about how Ukrainians passed the test of massive missile attacks by the russian federation here.
Fact №4. The main thing is quality and accuracy
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have disproved one of the biggest military stereotypes - that a smaller army has little chance of fighting a large enemy. Thanks to the wisdom of the military command, Ukrainian soldiers are advancing and liberating the land from invaders. We believe that this will continue, and Ukraine will prove that a 3-5 times manpower advantage is not a guarantee of victory.
We have described the beginning of the counteroffensive and what is happening at the front here.
Fact №5. Not only men
Not only men serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A total of 42 thousand women are defending Ukraine, including 5,000 directly on the front line.
By the end of 2022, 350 women in the military were recognized with state awards. Unfortunately, two of them were posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. Today, there are more such heroines.

Fact №6. Rescuing the wounded
Ukraine has created a unified medical space, a unique system of care for the wounded that is not available in other countries. The idea is to combine military and civilian medical facilities and a special logistics system that covers the entire country and various modes of transportation. The results are telling:
● Up to 82% of wounded soldiers recover and return to service;
● 80% of the wounded receive the necessary medical care during the "golden hour"
● The number of deaths during the evacuation phase has significantly decreased.
By the way, civilians and tourists also need to take care of their safety. Staying in Ukraine is fraught with risks, as russia continues to attack peaceful cities. We recommend that anyone planning a visit to Ukraine should take out an insurance policy covering military risks and terrorist attacks. You can do it online quickly and easily by following the link.
Fact №7. Planning of operations
Military commanders carefully plan every offensive operation. The time spent on preparation is not wasted, because Ukraine, as an advancing party, suffers fewer losses than the enemy. This is confirmed by the daily reports of the General Staff.

Fact №8. Destruction of the "insurmountable"
This spring, for the first time, Ukraine's air defense system shot down a hypersonic russian Kinzhal missile, which is supposedly impossible to hit. Thus, Ukraine not only learned how to effectively defend its skies with a limited air defense arsenal, but also finally dispelled the myth of russia's greatness and invincibility.
We have described other false myths spread by russia here.
Fact №9. Logistics that wins wars
Ukraine has organized its logistics in such a way that the supply of weapons, fuel, equipment and food is not threatened by air attacks. Thanks to competent logistics, the Ukrainian army constantly receives the necessary supplies.

Fact №10. IT solutions that help you win
The IT industry has formed a new motto - "Digital Weapon". Ukrainian specialists have developed and implemented digital solutions to manage and support battles and operations. These include:
● Kropyva, a tactical command and control system
● Delta situational awareness platform
● LOGFAS, the NATO logistics operations support service
● "Eyes" project.
We wrote more about Ukrainian innovative weapons based on modern technologies and artificial intelligence here.
500 days of war is a real separate life. And in this new life, the soldiers show their unbreakable strength, resilience and faith every day. Every day is a day of strength. As Oleksandr Dovzhenko said: "We are fighting for something that has no price in the whole world - for the Motherland."
We remind you the past year has been a remarkable one, proving to the world that the boundaries of what is possible can melt before our eyes. Read about how international support and Ukraine itself have changed since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in our previous article.
