When traveling outside their home country, tourists are required to take out a travel health insurance policy for the entire duration of their stay abroad. However, not everyone knows that the insurance covers more days than the tourist actually takes out when buying the policy.

How does the travel insurance corridor work?
The corridor is an additional number of days specified in the contract provided by the insurance company in case the tourist encounters force majeure. As a rule, the travel insurance corridor is 15 days, and this is due to the requirements of the European Union's migration policy.
Thus, in the Schengen area, the contract is automatically valid for 15 days longer. The insurance corridor is designed to protect tourists outside their home country as much as possible. However, the additional days cannot be used freely, as the corridor is designed for reinsurance. In particular, in the event that in the event of force majeure (illness) the insured person is unable to return on time.

Who can use the travel insurance corridor and how?
As a rule, each insured event within the corridor is considered on an individual basis. Whether the insurance company will pay when using the travel insurance corridor depends on the specific reasons why the person was delayed abroad, their medical history, and their current health status. However, as a rule, insurance companies meet their clients halfway and reimburse losses until the end of the corridor.
How to use the travel insurance corridor:
– contact the insurance company using the contacts specified in the insurance policy;
– wait for coordination of actions with the assistance and only then contact a medical facility;
– keep all test results, hospital and pharmacy statements and receipts.
Please note! Insurance companies will not consider cases where the insured person has decided to use the corridor without good reason, and will most likely refuse a person who applies after the end of the paid period. However, provided that all the instructions and guidelines of the assistance are followed, a person who really finds himself in force majeure circumstances has a chance to receive compensation.
