Ukrainian airline SkyUp Airlines has taken an important step in its development by obtaining a license to operate flights in the United States. According to the company, SkyUp now holds the FAR129 foreign air carrier certificate, which gives it the right to cross American airspace. The permit was issued to 4 airline aircraft.
Here are the details and why this news is important for the Ukrainian aviation market.
SkyUp low-cost airline has received a license to fly to the United States: details
SkyUp has received the FAR 129 foreign air carrier certificate, which allows it to cross the airspace of the United States of America.
Four Boeing 737-800 aircraft have received this permit. According to the company's website, these are UR-SQB, UR-SQC, UR-SQF, and UR-SQP aircraft.
According to the airline's CEO Dmytro Seroukhov, this is a new milestone in the development of the Ukrainian brand in the world, which the company has successfully overcome.
As part of the certification, SkyUp received:
• U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) approval - permission for the airline to operate in the United States;
• TSA approval - approval for compliance with aviation security requirements for flights to and from the United States;
• FAA approval - performance characteristics under Part 129.
According to the airline's website, SkyUp Airlines plans to develop ACMI services in the US market and operate charter flights.
How did the history of SkyUp Airlines begin in the international arena?
As of February 24, 2022, SkyUp has successfully delivered 10 of its 11 aircraft to Europe.
The last plane was also in flight and had flown for 20 minutes from Boryspil to Chisinau when UkSATSE issued a flight ban and ordered it to return to the company. Thus, the plane remained in Boryspil and was serviced there.
In April of this year, SkyUp withdrew its last aircraft from Kyiv Boryspil Airport.
In 2022, SkyUp's passenger traffic decreased by 2.3 times to about 1.1 million passengers.
In May, Ukraine's SkyUp opened an airline in the European Union. The company has registered its subsidiary SkyUp MT in Malta and has already received an Operator's Certificate (AOC), an Operator's License (AOL) and a Certificate of Airworthiness Maintenance Organization (CAMO), SkyUp said in a statement.
SkyUp: bases in Egyptian resorts
Ukrainian low-cost airline SkyUp Airlines is expanding its presence in Egyptian resorts in preparation for the winter transportation season.
In the summer, the company announced its intention to open bases in this popular tourist country for the period from late October to early March 2024.
According to the airline's plans, this initiative involves working in Egypt under ACMI contracts, where SkyUp provides its aircraft, insurance, and services to the customer in exchange for a fixed fee for airline ticket sales.
The opening of bases in Egyptian resorts will allow the Ukrainian airline to expand its route network and provide additional opportunities for passengers looking for leisure and travel to this fascinating region.
