The holidays are coming, which means that the official holiday period is coming too. During this time, most shops and shopping centers in Germany are closed. This also applies to the period of major religious holidays.

Here are the upcoming public holidays in Germany.

When are the holidays and non-working days in Germany in December and January?

According to the Telegram channel "Ukraine/Germany/Refugees", the Christmas holidays in Germany last three days, from December 24 to 26, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St. Stephen's Day.

On December 25 and 26, stores will remain closed, and some companies may also have a day off for their employees on December 24.

Among the upcoming public holidays in Germany, it is also worth noting January 1 - New Year's Day. On this day, as in Ukraine, stores will be closed. New Year's Eve in Germany is celebrated as Sylvester in honor of the Christian saint who died on December 31 in the 4th century.

Another important holiday is January 6, the Feast of the Three Kings (Epiphany). It is an official holiday in some federal states, such as Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and Saxony-Anhalt, where shops will also be closed. This holiday, known in Ukraine as Epiphany, is celebrated throughout Germany, often with groups of wheelchair-bound children raising money for charity.

Even on Christmas Eve, December 24, all retail establishments operate on a shorter schedule - from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then people prepare for Christmas Eve.

On the holidays, December 25 and 26, most shops and even bakeries remain closed, except for those located at train stations, airports, or owned by owners of another religion, such as Turkish cafes or shops.

We remind you! Traveling on Christmas Eve can be not only magical, but also quite economical, providing an unforgettable experience of festive mood in different parts of the world. Find out more about the most budget-friendly Christmas destinations in Europe this year.
