Protests have begun in Germany that could cause traffic chaos. On January 8, farmers began blocking roads and highways across the country, focus.de reports.

A new wave of strikes in Germany: how long will the transportation collapse last?

Tens of thousands of agricultural workers have taken to tractors to protest against the reduction of subsidies for diesel fuel for agriculture.

Farmers in Germany are opposed to the increase in agricultural diesel prices and the transportation tax. The Farmers' Association has planned a protest action that will last from January 8 to 15 and will end with a rally in Berlin.

Farmers are gathering in different cities with their equipment. In Munich, police are escorting 5,500 tractors moving toward the city center. At the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, 450 tractors have already gathered, and more are still arriving. In various cities, entrances to neighborhoods are blocked and drivers are warned of traffic difficulties, with some children unable to get to schools.

On January 10, the transportation situation in Germany will worsen. GDL drivers have announced a three-day strike in passenger transport until 18:00 on January 13. This will significantly limit train traffic across the country, DW reports.

Deutsche Bahn will prepare a temporary schedule for the strike, which will provide only a limited number of trains on intercity, regional and S-Bahn routes. Passengers were urged to postpone their planned trips from Wednesday to Friday.

Earlier we reported that train disruptions on German railways would continue in 2024. Passengers who face canceled trips may receive compensation. Read more about how to get a refund here.
