General mobilization in Ukraine is ongoing, but those who wish to join the army as part of a specific unit can sign a contract with a military unit on their own. The article below explains how to choose a place to serve, what kind of service to do, and what you need to do.

How can I mobilize to a specific unit and specialty on my own?

Currently, there are three main ways to choose a branch of the military and a unit for service:

1. Contacting the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCRSS)

2. Direct application to a specific unit

3. Search for vacancies on job search platforms

Come to the TCR

This option is suitable for those who would like to serve in their specialty, but do not aim to join a specific unit. The assignment to a military unit will be based on the candidate's specialty and professional skills. However, when choosing to go to the TCR on your own, it should be borne in mind that the military enlistment office may send a person for retraining if the army currently needs specific soldiers, and therefore the candidate's specialty may not always be taken into account.

At the same time, by joining the army through the TCR, a person can choose to be mobilized before demobilization is announced or to serve under a contract.

It is also worth noting that in some cities, recruiting departments operate in the TCRs, which are engaged in the selection of a place of service for a candidate and his/her full support until joining the unit.

Applying to the unit

Depending on the specific unit, the conditions for applying may differ. Some of them have pages on social media where you can find contact numbers, some have their own websites, and some have recruiting centers in cities.

Another option is to get a letter of recommendation (a letter of reference or written consent) from the military unit where the candidate wants to serve.

Vacancies in the army on platforms

Currently, vacancies for specific specialties in certain units can be found on four job search platforms: Lobby X, Robota.ua, Work.ua, and Olx Work. In addition, relevant vacancies are also published on the Unified State Vacancy Portal of the Employment Service of Ukraine.

Employment platforms offer both combat and non-combat positions, as well as vacancies in the Ministry of Defense for current military personnel.

What do you need to volunteer?

After a candidate has found a suitable vacancy/received a letter of acceptance from the military unit, etc., he or she must undergo a military medical examination to determine fitness for military service. After passing the medical commission, a personal file will be opened for the candidate, and then he or she will be sent to the appropriate training center for training.

Documents required

The full list of documents may vary depending on the chosen unit and position, as well as the chosen application option. The general list looks like this:

- passport

- identification code

- service characteristic (from the place of study, residence or work)

- medical certificate of health

- copy and original of the military ID card, as well as the UBD (if available)

- copy of the employment record book

- a copy of the driver's license (if available)

- certificate or extract of no criminal record (original and copy)

- copy of the birth certificate

- copies of documents on education and labor activity

- copies of documents on marital status

 - certificate of family composition and place of registration or actual residence

- written consent to a special inspection

- autobiography (in printed and written copies)

For persons aged 18 to 19 years, it is additionally necessary to obtain parental permission.

We remind you! Territorial recruitment centers continue to recruit people to the Ukrainian army by issuing calls. Read more about the algorithm of actions after receiving a call-up and when you can refuse it in our previous article.
