The Verdi trade union in Germany has initiated a nationwide strike in public transport, which will cover different days of this week. The strike will affect buses and trains across the country, with the exception of Bavaria. This was reported by amp.zdf.de.

New strikes have begun in Germany: details


It is noted that about 90 thousand public transport workers across Germany plan to join the strike. Most cities will be covered by the rallies on March 1.


Residents of the following regions should expect difficulties with public transportation:


• Baden-Württemberg: the strike will take place from February 29 to March 1, covering companies in Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Heilbronn, Freiburg, Baden-Baden, Esslingen, and Konstanz.


• Berlin: a strike is planned from February 29 to March 1, affecting the subway, trams, and buses.


• In Brandenburg: strikes by transport companies are scheduled for March 1. On February 28, companies in Templin, Prenzlau, Schwedt, and Anhermünde will go on strike, and on February 29, the bus company Ostprignitz-Ruppiner Nahverkehrsgesellschaft mbH will strike all day.


• Bremen: a strike on March 1 will stop buses and trams.


• Hamburg: the strike will last from February 29 to March 2. Employees of Hamburger Hochbahn AG (subway and buses) and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein GmbH (VHH) (buses) will be on strike.


• Hesse: subway and tram strikes will be held in Frankfurt and Kassel on March 1-2. Buses will be affected by the strike in Wiesbaden.


• Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: a strike is possible on March 1.


• Lower Saxony: a strike is scheduled for February 29. Public transportation companies in the cities of Hanover, Braunschweig, Osnabrück, Wolfsburg, and Goslar will strike.


• North Rhine-Westphalia: the strike on February 29 and March 1 may shut down up to 30 companies. Including in Duisburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Bonn and Dortmund.


• Rhineland-Palatinate: strikes are possible on February 29 and March 1.  Municipal transport companies in Mainz, Pirmazens and Trier, as well as regional bus transport in the Rhine-Neck region, may join the strikes.


As you know, bus strikes in Saarland already took place on February 26, and in Schleswig-Holstein a warning strike started on the same day and will end on March 1.

Strikes are also planned in the following regions in the near future:


• In Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, warning strikes in regional transport are scheduled for February 29 and March 1.


• In Thuringia, the strikes will take place on February 28-29, involving bus and train drivers from municipal transport companies including Erfurt, Gera, Jena, Mühlhausen, Nordhausen, Saundershausen, Weimar, Weimarer Land and Saale-Holzland.
