Ukraine has made it to the European top in terms of the number of companies operating in the field of artificial intelligence technologies. The Ministry of Finance has revealed how many such companies are already operating in the country.

Today, more than 200 AI companies are functioning in Ukraine, which makes Ukraine the second in Central and Eastern Europe in terms of the number of AI companies. The first place is occupied by Poland, where more than 300 such startups are concentrated.

What does the ranking look like?

Poland - 301 companies;

Ukraine - 243;

Estonia - 154;

Czech Republic, 121;

Romania - 109.

Which Ukrainian cities have the most AI companies?

Thus, out of 243, 177 AI companies are located in Kyiv, and another 44 in Lviv. Kharkiv, Odessa and Dnipro have an average of 21 AI startup offices.

"Ukraine is home to world-renowned AI startups such as Grammarly, Preply and People ai. As of 2019, two Ukrainian AI companies have become 'unicorns' and the three largest Ukrainian AI startups are valued at over $14.5bn," said Minister of Digital Transformation Mikhail Fedorov.

The head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation said that over the last 10 years the number of specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning has grown 5 times, and now it is 5,200 professionals. According to Fedorov's forecasts, their number will grow by 330% in the next few years.

However, for this to happen, he believes Ukraine needs to reboot education. There are now 106 training programmes on artificial intelligence open in Ukraine. A key step to train strong specialists is to establish co-operation between universities and AI companies so that students have access to practical knowledge and experience.

In addition, the importance of startups is noted. For example, funding for Ukrainian startups specialising in AI grew by 35% in 2023 alone.
