The road from Kyiv to Poltava, despite its rather short length (over 350 km), can be not only a regular trip, but also an interesting journey with the opportunity to visit several interesting places. The route runs along the M03 motorway, which connects the cities, and there are many attractions along it that you can visit without travelling far from the road.

Pereyaslav - an open-air museum

One of the first stops on the road may be Pereyaslav, located about 90 kilometres from Kyiv. This city is known for its numerous museums, among which the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life of the Middle Dnipro Region stands out.

This is a huge open-air museum where you can see reconstructed Ukrainian village houses, windmills, churches and other traditional architecture. It is a great place for those interested in the history and culture of Ukraine.

Continuing along the M03 motorway, you can stop in Yagotyn. This is a small town known primarily for its art gallery, which exhibits works by prominent Ukrainian artists, including Taras Shevchenko. In addition, there is a beautiful park area where you can take a walk and enjoy the silence of nature.

Lubny. Ancient city and Mgarsky Monastery

Halfway between Kyiv and Poltava is the city of Lubny, one of the oldest cities in Ukraine, founded in 988.

Also in this area, you can visit the Mgarsky Transfiguration Monastery, located not far from the highway. Founded in the 17th century, this monastery is famous for its architecture and is an important religious centre. The town itself also has a rich history and can be interesting for a short stopover.

Reshetylivka

Reshetylivka is a small village known for the fact that the Battle of Poltava took place nearby in 1709. Here you can see memorials erected in honour of this historic event.

Reshetylivka is also famous for its traditional embroidery and weaving masters, which makes it attractive to those interested in folk art.

Legendary Dykanka

If you have a little more time and a desire to make a small detour from the highway, you should definitely stop by Dykanka. This picturesque village is known for the works of Nikolai Gogol.

Here you can see the Trinity Church, which is depicted in the work ‘Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka’, and admire the beautiful scenery. This place is filled with the atmosphere of ancient Ukraine and the spirit of the great writer's work.

Kochubeev Oaks - a natural landmark

Not far from Poltava, near the village of Dykanka, there are the famous Kochubeev Oaks, a group of centuries-old trees, some of which are more than 800 years old. These oaks are a natural and historical landmark as, according to legend, they are associated with the activities of Hetman Ivan Mazepa and the Kochubey family. It is a quiet place, ideal for a short stop and a walk.
