Inviting a foreigner to Ukraine requires sufficient financial security for their stay in the country. This is an important condition for obtaining a visa and smooth entry. Find out how much money should be in the account and whether a bank statement is required
Inviting a foreigner to Ukraine requires not only paperwork but also proof of sufficient financial security for their stay in the country. This is an important condition for obtaining a visa and unimpeded entry.
We will tell you what is required to invite a foreigner to the territory of Ukraine and how much money should be in the account - further in the article.
How much money should be on the account to invite a foreigner: details
In accordance with part one of Article 21 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons” and part three of Article 9 of the Law of Ukraine “On Border Control”, foreigners must provide evidence of their financial solvency. This applies to both tourists and persons invited to the territory of Ukraine.
What documents are required?
One of the main documents that confirms the availability of finances is a bank statement. This statement indicates the balance of funds in the account, which should be sufficient to cover living expenses and other needs during your stay in Ukraine. Consuls and border guards often require this document.
However, many people are faced with the question: how much money should be in the account to avoid problems when applying for a visa or entering the country?
How to calculate the required amount?
To determine the minimum amount of funds that must be in the account, a special formula is used, established by the Procedure for Confirming Sufficient Financial Security. This procedure was approved by Resolution No. 884 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated December 4, 2013.
The relevant formula takes into account the average cost of living in Ukraine and also provides for additional expenses for food, transportation and other needs of the foreigner during his/her stay.

The amount of money depends on the period for which the foreigner comes to Ukraine
As noted above, to enter Ukraine, foreigners must have sufficient financial security, which is determined on the basis of the subsistence minimum per person. This applies to both short-term and long-term trips. In 2024, this amount will be UAH 58,400 per month.
An important detail is that even for short trips, it is necessary to calculate the amount with an additional 5 days to cover possible unforeseen delays or changes in plans.
Examples of calculating the required amount:
• A trip for 90 days:
Calculation: 3058400UAH×(90+5)=1946,6UAH/day×95=184933,3UAH
The amount to be secured is 184,933.3 UAH.
• Travel for 15 days:
Calculation: 3058400UAH×(15+5)=1946,6UAH/day×20=38933,3UAH
For a short-term visit, you need to have 38,933.3 UAH.
Is a bank statement with this amount of money always required?
Although having sufficient financial security is a prerequisite, there are several ways to prove these funds. An official of the Border Guard Service or consulate may accept other documents confirming the financial solvency of a foreigner. Among them:
- A document on booking or payment for accommodation and meals.
- A contract for travel services (voucher).
- A letter of guarantee from the host country. In this letter, the inviting party undertakes to cover all expenses of the foreigner during his/her stay in Ukraine, which is an important part of the invitation.
- A travel ticket for returning to the country of origin or to another country, confirming the return trip.
Although a bank statement is the most common document, other forms of proof of financial solvency may be accepted if the above-mentioned confirmations are available.
Will cash be acceptable?
Yes, the document states that the availability of sufficient financial security can be confirmed by visual inspection of cash. It can be either in the national currency of Ukraine or in a convertible foreign currency at the rate of the National Bank of Ukraine on the day of entry.
Do I need to show an account statement to invite a foreigner?
When issuing the invitation itself, a bank statement from the inviting party is not required for a notary. However, when applying for a visa and crossing the border, it may be requested by border or consular services to make sure that the foreigner has sufficient funds to stay in Ukraine.
What else should I bring with me to enter Ukraine?
In addition to an account statement or other proof of financial security, you must have:
