Since the beginning of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a number of European countries have taken tough measures to restrict entry for citizens of the aggressor country. Some have completely closed their borders to russians, while others have significantly tightened visa requirements and made it almost impossible to obtain visas. In addition, the European Commission supported a ban on the entry of cars with russian licence plates, thus indicating that russians are unwelcome in these countries. With reference to Channel 24, we will tell you which countries have imposed such restrictions.

Baltic countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia

These countries have completely closed their borders to tourists from russia, banning entry even if they have a Schengen visa. Tourists from russia cannot cross the border either by air or by sea. This ban makes Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia some of the most ‘russian-free’ destinations in Europe.

Poland

Poland, like the Baltic countries, has imposed a complete ban on entry for russian citizens travelling for tourism purposes. The country has taken a tough stance, limiting border crossings for russians and ensuring that the risk of their presence on its territory is minimal.

Finland

Finland has also closed its borders to tourists from russia. This means that russians will not be able to cross the border even with a tourist visa. The entry ban applies to crossing the border by air and sea.

Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has stopped accepting tourist visa applications from russian citizens and restricted entry for russians. This makes the country not only attractive for tourists who want to avoid unwanted encounters, but also confirms its strict stance on tourists from the russian federation.

Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands

These countries have also restricted or completely suspended the issuance of tourist visas for russians, which significantly reduces the number of tourists coming from russia.

Germany and Slovenia: strict visa restrictions

Although Germany and Slovenia have not completely closed their borders to russians, they have imposed strict visa restrictions that make entry difficult. Germany requires a bank account with a ‘reliable’ EU bank to obtain a visa, while Slovenia requires a direct flight ticket, excluding entry via rail and bus tickets. These measures significantly reduce the flow of russian tourists.

Countries that have completely closed their borders or imposed strict restrictions on tourists from russia demonstrate a clear political position and ensure the minimum presence of russians on their territory. This makes them a safe choice for Ukrainian and other tourists who want to avoid encounters with russian citizens.

Do not forget that any trip abroad requires a careful approach to your own safety. We recommend that travellers take out an insurance policy before travelling to other countries to save their money in case of unforeseen situations.
