Since August, Turkey has begun issuing long-term residence permits to Crimean Tatars, recognizing their status as "compatriots with Turkic roots." This was reported by the Anadolu agency with reference to the Turkish Interior Ministry.
Previously, this status was granted to Meskhetian Turks, Uighurs, and ethnic Turks from Bulgaria and Greece. According to Turkish law, a long-term residence permit can be obtained by foreigners only after 8 years of residence in the country, however, according to the new status, Crimean Tatars will be able to obtain it without fulfilling this condition. To get a document, you need to make an appointment (take a rendezvous) at the local office of the migration service (Goç idaresi) on the website.
Only 5% of foreigners living in Turkey now have long-term residence permits, while 75% of them are people with Turkish roots.
