Krasiya Ski Resort: visit one of the largest winter resorts in Transcarpathia and go down the longest ski run

Krasiya is known for its longest ski run in Zakarpattia, affordable prices and focus on different categories of visitors. Find out the history, interesting places and most popular routes of one of the largest ski resorts in Ukraine
Krasiya Ski Resort is located near the villages of Vyshka and Kostryno in Zakarpattia. The distance from the regional centre is 65 km, which can be covered by bus or by car. A special feature of Krasiya is the longest ski run in Zakarpattia - about 3.5 km. But the ski resort is unique not only for this: a large area and multi-level recreation areas help to avoid crowds of skiers and train together with those who have the same level of training. The ‘hot season’ here is from December to April.
History of Krasiya - from the first ski lift to the present day
The ski resort was built in Soviet times, and its development peaked in the 80s of the last century. At that time, Krasiya had the only chairlift in Ukraine. When they started building ski slopes here, the main requirements were convenience and visitor orientation - the slopes had to be accessible to skiers of different skill levels. After 1991, Krasiya gradually began to decline, but is now reviving again: the ski slopes have been improved, modern lifts installed, and snow groomers and snow cannons purchased.
What can you visit in Krasiya?

Greek Catholic Church in Velykyi Bereznyi village
The stone Greek Catholic Church built in 1792 still preserves the memory of those ancient times. The interior reconstruction of the building and the altar were made at the expense of local residents who went to America to work in 1903. The church is made in a combination of classicism and baroque styles and will be of great interest to researchers of Greek Catholic art.

Mount Yavirnyk in the village of Velykyi Bereznyi
The 1,017-metre-high mountain is located within the Polonynskyi Beskyd and is a very popular hiking route in all seasons. Yavirnyk has the shape of an elongated ridge that stretches for 10 km. The mountain is the border of the Uzhansky National Nature Park. The slopes are covered with sycamore and beech forests, and sometimes there are coniferous areas. All hiking routes start in Velykyi Bereznyi or Kostryno and involve climbing the mountain in three main directions
- towards the village of Ruskyi Mochar;
- to the shelter for tourists;
- to the TV tower.

The place where the Knyaginya meteorite fell
The Knyahynya meteorite, the largest meteorite recorded in Europe, fell in 1866 in the Zakarpattia region. Nowadays, it is the Chorni Mlaki tract between the Stinka and Yavirnyk ridges. The remnants of the meteorite, which split into two almost identical parts during the fall, were found by a local resident Vasyl Kryvianyk, who then sold them to the forester of Velykyi Bereznyi, Anton Pokornyi. The meteorite was then transferred to the Vienna Imperial Museum, where the fragments are still stored today. Several scientific expeditions have been organised, and the remains of the Knyahynya meteorite are now kept in 104 historical and natural history museums around the world.
Later, Jules Verne became interested in the meteorite fragments when he visited Czerny Mlaky in 1892. Some claim that the science fiction novel ‘Chasing a Meteorite’ was inspired by him.
Much later, the M-Studio TV company made a documentary about the meteorites of the region, including the Knyahynya.

St Nicholas Church in Velykyi Bereznyi village
The unique wooden church was built in the 17th century in the Boyko style. Unfortunately, only elements of the culture of this national community remain in the church today - the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style.
