Earlier we told you what tourists and guests of Lviv should consider to enjoy this unique corner of Ukraine.
History of Christmas tree decorations, Lviv
Did you know that the first Christmas tree ornaments were made from edible products? Nuts, fruits, and cookies were hung on Christmas trees until German craftsmen invented glass balls in the 16th century. According to legend, they started making them out of glass because of a poor apple harvest.
What did Ukrainian Christmas trees look like in the past? Visit the exhibition “The History of Christmas Tree Decorations” to see how the style of Christmas decor in Ukraine changed from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The project is curated by Maryna Lukianova, a well-known researcher and collector of Christmas tree decorations.
Location: Potocki Palace, 15 Mykola Kopernyka Street.
Date: January 18 to February 23, 16.00 - 19.00
Entrance fee: free of charge
“Dad, I'm in Odesa!”, Odesa
Alevtina Kakhidze explores the influence of empires on several generations over the last century, from the Soviet Union to the current Russian-Ukrainian war, through the prism of her own family.
The exhibition “Dad, I'm in Odesa!” is the artist's first solo exhibition in this city. The project features the video work “Everything is Fine?”, created in collaboration with Roman Khimey, and a specially designed installation. It combines archival photographs, drawings, herbarium, and objects from the family collection.
This project is part of the in-depth work of the artists and curators Kateryna Semeniuk and Oksana Dovhopolova on decolonization. In 2024, they presented two interconnected works: “From South to North” at the Ukrainian pavilion at the Malta Biennale and an exhibition at the Odesa National Art Museum.
Alevtina Kakhidze reflects on the tragic events of history that have affected her family: from the Holodomor and World War II to the Russian aggression in Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine since 2014. The exhibition reflects painful events, including the shelling of Pokrovsk in January 2024, which affected her family.
Location: Odesa National Art Museum, 5A Sofiivska St.
Date: May 25 - February 28, 2025
Entrance fee: free of charge

Luda Yastreb. Painting and graphics, Odesa
The exhibition is dedicated to Luda Yastreb, an outstanding artist who became one of the key figures of Odesa modernism in the second half of the twentieth century. The exhibition, located in three halls of the museum, includes more than 80 works by the artist from private collections, as well as archival materials covering her career.
Lyudmyla Yastreb's work is characterized by a bold approach that opposed the ideological framework of her time. The famous artist Viktor Maryniuk recalled her works as “a triumph of freedom, a movement towards self-expression and a manifestation of human dignity.”
Due to the war, a full retrospective was not possible, as a significant part of the collections remained inaccessible. Nevertheless, the exhibition allows us to immerse ourselves in Yastreb's world through a selection of paintings and drawings from Maryniuk's private archive, demonstrating her influence on the art of Odesa and Ukraine.
Location: Odesa National Art Museum, 5A Sofiivska St.
Date: from October 18 to February 2, Wednesday - Sunday from 12:00 to 19:00
Entrance fee: with a general ticket to the museum
Someone Prays for You, Chernivtsi
A charity exhibition “Someone Prays for You” will open at the Bunker Art Center in Chernivtsi. The event aims to raise funds to support three units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which have been supported by artist Taras Polatayko since 2022.
The exhibition will feature selected works from the charity project of the same name. Among the works are artworks by Taras Polatayko, Stanislav Turina, Violeta Oliynyk, Ivan Salevych, Serhii Kolisnyk, and Bohdan Makarenko.
By visiting the exhibition, you will not only enjoy the works of Ukrainian artists, but also join in supporting our troops, as all the funds raised will be used to help our defenders.
Violetta Oliynyk emphasizes: “When your brothers are at war, you are at war. When they can't sleep at night because of constant shelling, you can't sleep either and you check when they last communicated with you. And if the time when “the user was online” coincides with the time of the next arrival, it becomes scary, like in the old fairy tale about wild swans: “if you say one word, they will die”. However, we can and must speak up. To communicate with arms suppliers, drone or takmed shop workers, to spread information and look for things they need...”
Location: Bunker Art Center, 3 Heroiv Maidanu St.
Date: from December 19 to January 18, 16.00 - 20.00. Opening hours may vary depending on the power outage schedule and are published on the center's website the day before the exhibition.
Entrance fee: free, charity raffles are held

ARTshot: Art born of war, Lutsk
On January 10, 2025, at 17:00, the Korsaks Museum will open the exhibition “ARTshot”, which reveals the power of art in mental healing during the war.
The exhibition includes works created as part of an art therapy project by the public organization Pyaternia. These works convey the emotions, experiences, and internal struggles of Ukrainians living through the war, showing art as a tool for recovery.
The project curator Tetiana Mialkovska, together with volunteers, uses art to support veterans, their families, children and youth, helping them find balance and strength to overcome life's challenges.
Art becomes a mirror of pain and at the same time a path to healing. We invite you to feel the depth of these works and support the mission of helping those affected by war.
Location: Korsak Museum, 1 Ivan Korsak St.
Date: January 10 - February 28, 2025, Mon-Fri: 12:00-20:00, Sat: 11:00-20:00

Cheers, Khmelnytskyi
The exhibition dedicated to Serhiy Savchenko is part of the “Cheers!” project honoring artists who celebrate their anniversaries in 2024. Serhii Savchenko, a prominent representative of the Odesa school of painting, is known for his unique style that combines abstraction, bright colors, and dynamic compositions. His work is deeply connected with folk culture and nature, which have always been important sources of inspiration for the artist.
The exhibition emphasizes the importance of ethnic roots and their influence on the formation of his artistic outlook. During the Soviet period, Savchenko faced harassment because of his rejection of socialist realism, but this did not stop him from continuing to experiment with abstraction. His works are characterized by an energy that reflects deep emotions and invites meditation.
This exhibition not only presents Savchenko's artistic legacy, but also focuses on the development of Ukrainian art in the context of the struggle for freedom and identity.
Location: Khmelnytskyi Regional Art Museum, 47 Proskurivska St.
Date: December 17 - January 19, Tuesday - Sunday from 09:00 to 18:00
Entrance fee: with a general museum ticket
