Students and postgraduates will soon be able to apply for a deferment from mobilisation in Reserve+: when the service will be launched

According to the law, men who are studying full-time or dual enrolment in the first year of higher education can get a deferment from military service. And the return of the deferment to Reserve+ is good news for such people. Find out when this service will be launched
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has announced the return of the deferment service for students and postgraduates in the Reserve+ app. Kateryna Chornohorenko, Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for Digitalisation, told when the service will be launched.
Deferment for students returns to Reserve+
According to Chornohorenko, from 22 January 2025, the possibility of applying for a deferment from mobilisation for students and postgraduates will be returned to the Reserve+ application.
The service will be restored immediately after successful testing of data exchange with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. She noted that the agency has received hundreds of requests for the resumption of this service from students and postgraduates from across the country.
Thus, starting from 22 January, all students of higher education institutions who meet the established criteria will be able to apply for a deferment from mobilisation through the Reserve+ application. The application process will be carried out in a digital format, which will greatly simplify and speed up the paperwork.
The Ministry of Defence encourages undergraduate and postgraduate students to prepare all necessary documents in advance and follow official notifications in order not to miss important details of the registration process.

Grounds for deferment of mobilisation have been expanded
Earlier, we wrote that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted two important draft laws that clarify and expand the grounds for granting a deferral from mobilisation.
The first adopted document, Draft Law No. 12104, addresses the legal uncertainty regarding the postponement of mobilisation for those citizens whose close relatives were killed or went missing while participating in hostilities.
The law grants the right to deferment to civilians who have been captured, as well as to those whose half-relatives (half-siblings) were killed or went missing. This law was voted for by 304 MPs.
The second draft law, No. 11531, aims to ensure equality of rights and opportunities between men and women in the military. The document allows servicemen whose half-siblings were killed or went missing during hostilities to be discharged from military service. The law was supported by 308 MPs.
We remind you! Ukrainians who have previously had the status of ‘restrictedly fit’ for military service are required to undergo a second medical examination at the Military Qualification Commission. Violation of the deadlines may result in fines of up to UAH 25,500.
