Boryspil International Airport has held official talks with the European low-cost airline Wizz Air on the possible resumption of passenger air transportation. The negotiations took place on February 11-13, 2025 at the airline's headquarters in Budapest.

Key aspects of the negotiations

The main topic of the meeting was preparations for the prompt launch of flights from Boryspil Airport after the opening of Ukraine's airspace. This is possible only if the security situation in the country is secure, which remains the main factor for the final decision.

The airport management informed Wizz Air representatives in detail about

- The airport's operational readiness to resume operations.

- Current state of the infrastructure, airfield and terminals.

- Technical support and aircraft ground handling capabilities.

- Compliance with certification requirements and staff qualifications.

- Security measures required to resume air traffic.

Oleksiy Dubrevskyi, Boryspil Airport CEO, who headed the Ukrainian delegation, said following the meeting:

"This is another necessary step that brings us closer to the restart of flights. Every day we are working to be ready to start accepting flights, handling passengers and cargo, and reconnecting Ukraine and Ukrainians with the world. And to do it all in a high-quality and safe manner. In addition to our internal preparations, the most important factor is the readiness of airlines. And Jozsef Varadi confirmed that Wizz Air has a clear and ambitious plan to return to the Ukrainian market when peace comes."
