Hike to Khomyak Mountain
About this tour
Climbing the Hamster
Hamster Mountain lies within the southeastern part of the Gorgany Mountains above the village of Tatariv, which is located on the territory of the Yaremche City Council of Ivano-Frankivsk region. The top of Khomyak is one of the most popular locations among "weekend" tours. Its height is 1542 meters, and it is located in the village of Tatariv in Ivano-Frankivsk region.
The mountain owes its name to its peak, which resembles the back of an alpine hamster. The very top of Mount Hamster is completely covered with stones. The middle part is mainly made up of coniferous forests and meadows.
Climbing the peak does not require special training. Even elderly people and small children can conquer the peak in spring and autumn. The route is also ideal for safe hiking for winter hiking beginners.
On the way to the top, through the magical Carpathian forest, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding area. From the top of the mountain, you can enjoy an incredible view of the Chornohora ridge, the highest mountain range in Ukraine.
Hiking to Khomyak is a leisurely walk along the forest serpentine. The forest path will occasionally be interrupted by mountain streams and stones that have long been overgrown with moss. Thus, the trail leads to the Khomyakiv meadow, a high-mountain pasture. In this meadow, there are several kolybas. In summer, Hutsuls make cheese (budz) there and willingly sell it to tourists. You can also take a walk here, take a photo and admire the views of the meadow and the surrounding mountains.
