Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi shared information about the enemy’s possible plans in the northern sector. As it turns out, the Russian command is seriously considering options for new attacks. He stated this in an interview with “TSN.”
Where might Russia launch an offensive in the north?
According to the Commander-in-Chief, the most likely and realistic scenario at this time is an attack from the territory of the Bryansk Oblast of the Russian Federation on the Chernihiv Oblast. Syrskyi noted that this particular scenario is currently being confirmed by several sources.
“This is a realistic scenario, and, of course, we are preparing for it,” the Commander-in-Chief emphasized, making it clear that the Ukrainian military is aware of the enemy’s plans and is actively strengthening its defenses.

Will there be an offensive from Belarus toward Kyiv?
Syrskyi confirmed that Vladimir Putin has indeed tasked his General Staff with evaluating options for capturing Kyiv and other territories using Belarusian territory. And Russian generals have prepared such plans.
However, Oleksandr Syrskyi himself considers such a scenario unlikely given the current realities. In light of recent events, he strongly doubts that the Belarusian leadership would risk once again handing over its territory to the aggressor as a full-fledged springboard for an offensive. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian army is prepared even for such a turn of events.
Why would Russia open a new front?
The logic of the Russian occupiers in this matter is entirely predictable. If the enemy dares to launch active combat operations in the Chernihiv region, its main goal will be to stretch the front line as much as possible. By opening a new sector of combat operations, Russia will attempt to force the Ukrainian command to redeploy some of its reserves to the north, thereby weakening our positions in the east and south of the country.
It is important to note that, against the backdrop of these discussions, tensions along the Belarusian border have recently eased somewhat. This is all thanks to Kyiv’s firm stance. On June 19, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued an ultimatum to Alexander Lukashenko: either Minsk would remove the relay stations—which help guide Russian drones toward Ukrainian cities—within a week, or Ukraine would deal with them on its own.
As of June 22, these devices had ceased operations on Belarusian territory. Just a few days later, Ukrainian border guards reported positive changes: the mass flights of “Shahed” drones along the border had stopped, and the intensity of attacks across the Chernihiv region had noticeably decreased.
