Entry rules for Ukrainians to Greece
What documents do Ukrainian citizens need to enter Greece?
The following requirements apply to Ukrainian citizens planning a trip to Greece:
- Biometric passport - a biometric passport valid for at least 3 months after leaving the country, issued within the last 10 years is required for visa-free entry for up to 90 days in half a year.
- Health insurance - a compulsory health insurance policy that covers all expenses in case of emergency medical care.
- You may also be asked to provide documents confirming the purpose of the visit (hotel reservation, return tickets, or invitations).
- In some cases, confirmation of sufficient financial resources (bank statement or other document) may be required
Currently, when entering Greece, border guards are more likely to check that the insurance policy covers the entire period of stay, not just the flight dates.
What documents are needed for children to travel to Greece?
Children under 16 years of age traveling with their parents must have a foreign biometric passport or, in its absence, a birth certificate. They can cross the border with one parent without the need to obtain official permission from the other parent.
If the child is traveling with relatives or friends, it is mandatory to have a notarized permission to leave from one of the parents.
Health insurance is also a mandatory document for a child when traveling to Greece, just like for adults. You can quickly apply for a policy here.
Do I need a Green Card to travel to Greece by car now?
Yes, a Green Card is required for everyone who travels abroad by car, including refugees.
Just follow the link, choose the appropriate policy term and apply for a Green Card online in a few minutes.
What to do if your foreign passport is about to expire or has been “extended”?
As of October 29, 2025, Ukraine has abolished the military rule of extending the validity of foreign passports and entering data about children in them.
Now, only a valid biometric passport is required to travel abroad. If your document has been extended or information about a child has been added to it, you need to apply for a new biometric passport.
- In Ukraine — at the State Migration Service, the Administrative Services Center, or the State Enterprise “Document.”
- Abroad — at Ukrainian consulates or embassies or branches of the State Enterprise “Document.”
If you encounter difficulties crossing the border due to an ‘extended’ passport, contact the consulate — there you can obtain an identity card for returning to Ukraine (“white passport”).

In 2026, there is no fixed mandatory amount for entering Greece, but border guards may check your financial solvency. As a guideline, you should have around €50 per person for each day of your stay. The amount is calculated based on the length of your trip and can be confirmed with cash, a bank statement, or a card.
