The Government of Greece decided to provide temporary protection for citizens of Ukraine who were forced to leave the Motherland due to the war.
The following groups of persons who were relocated to Greece from Ukraine on or after February 24, 2022, are entitled to temporary protection (in accordance with Ministerial Resolution 131035/03/04/2022):
Citizens of Ukraine who lived in Ukraine until February 24, 2022.
Stateless persons and citizens of third countries, except Ukraine, who enjoyed international protection or equivalent national protection in Ukraine until February 24, 2022.
By family members of persons specified in the first two categories, even if they are not citizens of Ukraine, provided that the family existed and lived in Ukraine until February 24, 2022.
The following are considered family members:
a spouse or his/her unmarried partner in a stable relationship, duly certified
minor unmarried children
other close relatives of the 1st and 2nd degree who lived with the acquirer as a family.
Persons of the above categories who fled Ukraine after November 26, 2021 due to increased tensions or ended up on the territory of the EU (for example, on vacation or for work) and as a result of the armed conflict cannot return to Ukraine.
In Greece, the following categories do not have the right to temporary protection, but can apply for international protection (asylum):
All those who fled Ukraine by November 26, 2021
Third-country nationals or stateless persons residing in Ukraine with permanent residence permits until February 24 who cannot safely return to their country of origin.
Applicants will be granted temporary protection for a period of 90 days from the date of arrival, for an initial period of one (1) year, until March 4, 2023. The status can be extended for another six months, i.e., until September 4, 2023, and then for another six months, i.e. until March 4, 2024. This status is granted by the Asylum Service of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum and gives the right to access the labor market and medical care.
What are the procedures for entering Greece?
You can enter Greece by following these procedures:
Holders of Ukrainian passports with biometric features can enter from all points of entry (land and air) with a maximum stay of 90 days.
Holders of Ukrainian passports without biometric features (old type) can enter from all entry points with the required visa with a maximum stay of 90 days.
Citizens of Ukraine who do not have travel documents can enter only from the passport control department of Promaсhonas (tel. 0030-23230 41079), where you will be issued the appropriate document by the staff of the Embassy of Ukraine in Greece. Thanks to this procedure, you have the possibility of a maximum stay of 90 days.
If your children do not have travel documents, the staff at the entry points will note the number of minor children you are accompanying under the entry stamp in the passport.
Be careful: in this case, it will be necessary to present a certificate of marital status or the birth certificate of your children. If you do not have any of these documents, you must fill out and submit the appropriate declaration indicating the number of children, their name, surname, gender and date of birth.

You can return to Ukraine whenever you wish, and you can return to Greece with your temporary protection document valid until its expiration date. The period of your stay in Ukraine is not limited. The Ukrainian Nationals having a Temporary protection status and the temporary card issued, have the right to travel and move freely inside the EU-Schengen area
