Now it is a historical and cultural protected area, which, however, is not forgotten by tourists and attracted by its beauty. Tustan is a unique development for Ukraine and Europe. What is the uniqueness, you ask? Indeed, in Europe, fortresses and castles were built on rocks, and also from wood. But the creators of Tustan ingeniously combined a natural ridge of rocks with an artificial building. They used the rocks as ready-made walls and only supplemented them with wood. To fix the wooden parts, medieval builders hollowed out grooves in the stone, and it was this technology that allowed to completely reproduce the appearance of the fortresses The recesses, of which more than four thousand remain, show the location and height of walls and roofs, the angle of the roof, and so on. In addition, the researchers led by Mykhailo Rozhko were able to reproduce five periods of the existence of the defensive structure, because it was not so big at once, but grew gradually. During the period of greatest prosperity, in the 13th century, the fortress rose 90 meters above the valley. The main wooden building reached 25 meters
