The rules for the movement of currency values are in force at the Ukrainian border. How to cross the border if you have cash currency or bank metals with you, we tell you below.

Yes, without a written declaration, you can cross the border with cash currency and bank metals in an amount/value that does not exceed the equivalent of 10,000 euros. Such rules apply to both Ukrainians and foreign citizens.

When is a written declaration necessary?

The corresponding document must be submitted to the customs service in the event that the movement of the border takes place with currency and bank metals in an amount equal to or exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 euros.

The declaration is available at the link.

As for minors, such persons have the right to cross-border movement of currency values in the amount/value established by currency legislation. At the same time, a written declaration on behalf of a person who has not reached the age of 16 is made by his legal representative.

How is currency and metals converted at customs?

According to the information of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the recalculation of the amounts of cash currency and the value of bank metals into euros is carried out at the official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the euro, established by the National Bank of Ukraine, or at the cross rate determined according to the official exchange rate of the hryvnia to the relevant foreign currencies and bank metals , established by the NBU, on the day of crossing the border.

The rules for moving currency values when leaving Ukraine are similar to those that apply when entering.

However, resident citizens, when exporting or sending currency values outside of Ukraine in a total amount exceeding the equivalent of 10,000 euros on the day of export/forwarding, must add to the declaration documents confirming:

• his withdrawal of cash from his own bank accounts and a receipt for a currency exchange transaction with this cash (in the case of such a transaction) exclusively for the amount that exceeds the equivalent of 10,000 euros on the day of removal/remittance;

• withdrawal of cash by a resident citizen from his own accounts for the purpose of export, which is valid within 90 calendar days from the day he withdraws cash from his own bank accounts;

• his purchase of metals from banks and/or the National Bank exclusively for the amount that exceeds the equivalent of 10,000 euros on the day of export/shipment.

At the same time, these requirements do not apply to non-resident citizens (only in compliance with the declaration form).

We will remind you! The National Bank of Ukraine, together with Ukrainian banks, is implementing a project called Power Banking, which will help ensure the uninterrupted operation of the entire banking system. We tell you how and where bank branches will work during the second blackout.
