Climate bonus (Klimabonus) is a special payment that all residents of Austria receive. The money to pay the bonus comes from revenues from the CO2 price, which was introduced in October 2022.

Ukrainians can apply for the 2022 climate bonus. All people who have their main place of residence in Austria for at least six months in 2022 can receive the corresponding payment. It does not depend on age and citizenship.

Importantly! The climate bonus was paid to most people living in Austria between August and October 2022. There will be another wave of payments in February 2023. This is not a new climate bonus for 2023, people who moved their main residence to Austria only in the first half of 2022 or were even born in the first half of 2022 will receive the climate bonus

How to get Climate Bonus in Austria?

Automatically. Klimabonus is transferred directly to the account or sent by mail.

How much does the Austrian government pay under Klimabonus?

Payout is €500 or €250.

All adults will receive 500 euros. Minors receive half. From 2023, the size of the Klimabonus payment depends on the region of your main residence.

Pay attention! Klimabonus goes directly to your account. If you regularly receive money from the government, you do not need to do anything. Klimabonus will be transferred automatically. This applies, for example, to pensioners, child benefit recipients and those receiving special allowances. In particular, everyone whose current account number is saved on the FinanzOnline website will also receive their bonus automatically.

You can register on the FinanzOnline platform and create a login account by following the link.

You will then need to enter your bank account into your tax account.

How to get Climate Bonus by mail?

There is also another option for receiving Klimabonus if you do not have an account on the FinanzOnline website. In this case, the payment is sent by mail in the RSa letter.

Anyone who does not have current bank details will receive an RSa letter from Klimabonus. An RSa letter is a letter from authority. It can only be delivered personally to the recipient.

If the postman does not meet you at home, you can pick up the letter at the post office with your ID.

If you are expecting a voucher but are not usually at home, there is a way to approve a proxy so that any adult in your family can receive Klimabonus on your behalf.

What is necessary for this?

1. Fill out the Klimabonus Proxy form. Don't forget to include your ID and signature.

2. Keep the proxy form in a safe place. When the supplier arrives with Klimabonus, the authorized person simply needs to show the signed power of attorney form and the appropriate ID to receive the Klimabonus on your behalf.

If no one is at home when the courier calls, the Klimabonus will be safely delivered to the nearest post office and you will be informed where you can pick it up.

Pay attention! In this case, Klimabonus can only be received in person. The proxy here is invalid.

Vouchers can be used anywhere from supermarkets and bookstores to thousands of stores or exchanged for cash at a partner bank.
