From the first days of the war, Romania began to accept Ukrainian refugees and allowed them to enter the country under simplified conditions. In order for Ukrainians to feel comfortable, the country introduced the 50/20 support program, which covers part of the costs of housing and food.

What is the essence of the 50/20 program in Romania?

Individuals who will host refugees will receive monthly compensation from the state:

• for providing housing - 50 lei per person per day;

• for food - 20 lei per person per day.

Legal entities (for example, hotels) will also receive compensation - 100 lei per person, but no more than 230 lei per room.

The program was introduced to encourage private individuals and businesses to help refugees, and as a result to solve the problem of their resettlement. The 50/20 program is similar to the 40+ program that operated in Poland during the first months of the full-scale invasion.

What are the requirements for refugees from Ukraine under the 50/20 program?

All Ukrainians who came to Romania in search of asylum can apply for participation in the program. It is not necessary to receive temporary protection or refugee status.

How to apply for the program?

First, refugees need to find a person who will allow them to live in their own apartment. You do not need to do anything else - the homeowner submits an application for financial compensation. A citizen of Romania must do the following:

- register refugees at the police station. It is necessary to do this within the first three days of living in the accommodation, and for non-compliance with the deadlines, the owner of the accommodation will be fined - from 100 to 500 lei;

- submit an application in the first three days to receive compensation for the previous month.

The relevant administrative body will consider the request within 16 working days.

Please note that after registration in the program, representatives of the social service may come to the residence to check the fact of refugees' residence.

Accommodation of Ukrainians in hotels in Romania

Many hotels are ready to accept refugees from Ukraine. In particular, there are 3-4 star options that offer either two meals a day or monthly meal payments.

We will remind you! Romania attracts migrants with fairly moderate prices and picturesque landscapes. This country is one of the most comfortable places to live. For more information about prices for food products, utilities and renting apartments, see the link.
