How can Ukrainians report their temporary absence and keep their benefits in Germany?

Advance notice and consent of the JobCenter

If you plan to be away for up to three weeks, you must notify the establishment in advance and obtain their consent. Only after obtaining the approval will you be able to receive full benefits for this 21-day period, including weekends and holidays. Upon your return, be sure to personally report your arrival.

Absences of 3 to 6 weeks

If you plan to be absent for three to six weeks, please notify the JobCenter in advance and wait for their approval. In this case, you will only be paid for the first 21 days of your absence. All other days will not be paid. Upon your return, be sure to report your arrival in person.

Absence for more than 6 weeks

If you plan to be absent for more than six weeks, you must notify the establishment, but you will not be paid from the first day of your absence. Upon your return, you will have to re-apply for benefits at the JobCenter and your candidacy will be considered again.

How do I inform the JobCenter about my absence?

If you already have access to your personal account on the JobCenter website, you can report your absence online by filling out a special form and attaching it to your email. This will allow you to conveniently and quickly report your temporary unavailability.

It is important to remember that payments are kept for 21 days per year. No payments will be made for the period of absence exceeding this period. Therefore, if you are planning a long absence, you should carefully calculate your financial capabilities.

Ending the absence

When you return from your absence, it is important to report to the JobCenter in person and inform them of your arrival. This will ensure the smooth processing of your application and benefit payments.

It is noted that the new rules of absence when registering for Ukrainian refugees in Germany were introduced to ensure effective management and preservation of financial resources. Their observance helps to ensure fairness and receipt of assistance. In this way, payments are maintained, ensuring stability and financial support during periods of absence.

We remind you! Ukrainians who have recently moved to Germany have different rights than those who left at the beginning of the war. Learn more about how to stay in the country for more than 90 days and other opportunities available to citizens without temporary protection in our article.
