In today's environment, when Ukraine is facing the challenges of military conflict and instability, civil society is actively discussing issues related to education and the future of the younger generation.

Here are the results of a recent survey conducted by Polina Bondarenko, an analyst at the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation, which reveals interesting details of Ukrainians' attitudes toward studying abroad for boys during the war.

Most citizens support the idea of sending boys abroad

Currently, martial law in Ukraine restricts the right to travel for men of military age (18 to 60 years old).

At the same time, there are no restrictions on travel for underage students studying abroad, but many boys are hesitant to go home for the holidays because they may not be allowed to leave the country again.

A face-to-face survey of Ukrainian citizens was conducted by the Foundation in cooperation with the International Institute of Sociology from July 3 to 17, 2023 in Kyiv.

The survey involved 2,000 adult respondents who currently live in Ukraine.

The majority of Ukrainians (74%) agreed that men aged 16-25 should be allowed to freely travel and study abroad in wartime. At the same time, 18% of respondents disagreed with this opinion.

Since the sample does not include people in institutions such as hospitals, prisons, or military service, this makes it impossible to select from ordinary households, etc.

Under normal circumstances, the statistical sampling error does not exceed 2.8%, 2.0%, 1.4%, and 0.7% for rates close to 75%, 88%, 95%, and 99%, respectively.

Despite the support of the idea by the majority of Ukrainians, there are some restrictions on leaving Ukraine for adolescents aged 16 to 18. The Verkhovna Rada has drafted Bill No. 9480 on the protection of children's rights during temporary travel outside the country. Thus, parliamentarians want to limit the independent travel of teenagers abroad.

We remind you! Since the introduction of martial law in Ukraine and restrictions on men liable for military service from traveling abroad, the question of traveling abroad in case of dual citizenship has arisen. Find out if men with dual citizenship can travel abroad here.
