Human chain of unity on Ukraine's Independence Day in different countries: how to join in
On August 24, the day of the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine's Independence, Ukrainians and citizens of other countries are encouraged to take to the central streets of their cities and hold hands. Find out how to join the Free World Gathering initiative in your country of residence
On August 24, Ukraine celebrates its Independence Day, and unfortunately, many Ukrainians are forced to celebrate the 32nd anniversary abroad. The Free World Gathering initiative calls on Ukrainian citizens living in other countries to unite and form the largest living chain of unity in history by holding hands on the central streets of cities. It should be noted that citizens of other countries can also join the initiative by expressing solidarity and support for Ukraine.
"The main goal of the Chain of Unity project is to draw the world's attention to Ukraine once again, to unite the international community around our country, and to thank the countries in which Ukrainians are currently staying for their help," the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine reports.
Similar initiatives have been held in Ukraine many times. One of the largest chains since the country's independence was organized by Free World Gathering activists in the spring of 2014, at the beginning of the russian invasion. Then thousands of Ukrainians from different regions of the country created a human chain to demonstrate the unity of the state. Today, participation in this initiative is no less important than it was 9 years ago.

How to participate in the Free World Gathering initiative?
To become a part of the live chain, you need to go to the Free World Gathering website, log in and click the "Join the chain" button. After authorization, you will see marks on the map with the number of participants in different countries. To participate, you need to choose a city and mark the exact place where you will stand, or join the existing marks by taking a seat next to them to continue the chain.
"Thanks to you, the chain of free people is getting longer. Remember that the same thing is happening in different parts of the world - be filled with pride and joy! Spread the word about the chain so that as many people as possible can support Ukraine and freedom," the project organizers call.
The event will take place on August 24 at 19:00 (local time!). Participants should come to the point they have chosen on the map and take their place, holding hands with those standing side by side.
The largest living chain of unity in Ukraine - the Ukrainian Wave of 1990
On January 21, 1990, the day of the Unification of the UPR and ZUNR, one of the world's largest human chains took place. It was not only the largest act of unity in Ukraine, but also a significant step toward the country's independence. Millions of people took part in the human chain, which was over 770 kilometers long. Thus, the participants of the initiative joined hands and connected Ivano-Frankivsk and Kyiv (via Lviv).
This year, the decision to join the human chain is an important step in supporting Ukraine, a way to remind the world of the atrocities committed by russia and to show solidarity with the country that is defending world security and peace.
