What is the ideal city for a remote worker?
International Workplace Group experts have compared 26 cities that are suitable for people who want to work remotely with comfort. Thus, the selected cities were rated on a scale from 1 to 10 in the following categories
- cost of living;
- transportation and infrastructure;
- accessibility of restaurants/shops and prices for food and drinks;
- level of happiness of the local population;
- high-speed internet and communication;
- availability of flexible workspace.
"The categories were selected to consider the optimal environment for working abroad, including basic living requirements," said Darren Rogers, Regional Manager, IWG Singapore.
Thus, the corporation surveyed more than 1000 employees working remotely or hybridly. The survey found that three out of five (57%) respondents took a vacation last year while working from abroad. Therefore, the International Workplace Group concluded that "the horizons of modern workers are no longer limited to their countries."
Thus, remote workers feel free and appreciate the opportunity to extend their vacation by traveling for work, and employers, in turn, benefit by getting highly intelligent, happy, and productive teams.
Ideal cities for remote workers
The study showed that the most important criterion for remote workers working abroad is the availability of high-speed internet with high bandwidth, because, first of all, it is an opportunity to be productive and efficient.
And if you have a good Internet connection, they are willing to put up with high living costs and unfavorable weather.
Singapore took the first place in terms of local Internet connection speed (9 points), followed by New York (8.5) and Hong Kong (8). However, in the overall ranking, Singapore ranks only 21st.
