The Ukrainian Armed Forces' counteroffensive continues on several fronts, and despite Western partners' insistence that Kyiv should change its strategy and abandon the offensive in the east, Ukrainian troops are making progress and advancing near Bakhmut. Thus, on September 15, the General Staff of Ukraine officially confirmed that after months of fighting, the Ukrainian Armed Forces had liberated the key village of Andreevka, located just south of Bakhmut.

"The defense forces had a partial success in the area of Klishchiyivka during the offensive. In the course of assault operations, they captured Andriivka in Donetsk region, inflicted significant losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy, and are consolidating the achieved positions," the General Staff said in a morning report.

How was Andriivka liberated?

The details of the operation were provided by the 3rd separate assault brigade operating in the area.

"The 3rd Separate Assault Brigade liberated Andriivka. As a result of a lightning operation, the russian garrison of Andriivka was surrounded, cut off from the main forces and destroyed," the brigade said in a statement.

In addition, the fighters reported that the 72nd russian brigade was completely destroyed during the offensive, including almost all infantry and officers, a significant amount of equipment, the head of brigade intelligence and three combatants.

The soldiers also said that they were able to capture some of the occupiers using a drone and a loudspeaker. Thus, the drone was raised above the village, and the russians were offered to surrender or die. So some of the russian soldiers decided to save their lives, and the rest went to Kobzon's concert.

Why is the liberation of Andriivka important for Ukraine?

The first statements about the possible liberation of Andriivka were made in July 2023, and at that time experts emphasized the need to de-occupy the settlement. In particular, the spokesman for the eastern group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Cherevaty, noted that the liberation of Andriivka would not only improve the tactical position of Ukrainian soldiers, but would also allow them to surround or dislodge the occupiers from Bakhmut. In addition, the de-occupation of the village is a way to cut off the logistics routes connecting the military group with Horlivka.

At the same time, the 3rd Assault Brigade calls Andriivka "the key to success."

"Taking and holding Andriyivka is our way to a breakthrough on the right flank of Bakhmut, and the key to the success of the entire further offensive," the brigade explained.

In addition, Maksym Zhorin, deputy commander of the 3rd Brigade, notes that the liberation of Andriivka will allow full control of the railroad.

According to the commander of the eastern group of forces, Oleksandr Syrsky, the strategic goal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area is to surround Bakhmut. This means that Ukrainian soldiers are indeed making progress in this direction.

In order to encircle russian troops in Bakhmut and cut off supplies to Soledar, Ukraine needs to liberate two more settlements: Klishchiyivka and Kurdyumivka. According to the General Staff, the Ukrainian Armed Forces already control a large part of Klishchiyivka, which means that thanks to the titans of the Armed Forces, tactical success can soon become strategic.

At the same time, russian propagandists report that Klishchiyivka is "over" and, as always, spread betrayal and panic, because the loss of Bakhmut is unthinkable for them, especially given the number of occupiers they have put to work, including Wagner's men, to "take" this settlement.

I wonder what they will talk about this time in russia when Bakhmut returns to Ukrainian control?

We remind you! The Ukrainian Armed Forces have taken control of Boyko's oil rigs in the Black Sea, which were seized by russia in 2015. After the full-scale invasion began, the platforms were used for military purposes.
