Ukrainian intelligence services could have conducted operations in Sudan (northeastern Africa) against the russian PMC Wagner and their local allies from the Rapid Response Force (RSF), which attempted to stage a coup d'état in the country in 2023.

Coup d'état in Sudan: how did it all start?

The conflict in Sudan between the army and the RSF began on April 15, 2023. Later, it was reported that russia and the Wagner group under its control took part in the Sudanese coup d'état, supporting RSF leader Mohammed Daglo (Hamidi) and his militants.

During the fighting between the militants and the Sudanese army, more than 3,000 people were killed and 6,000 others were injured. According to the UN, more than a million people have fled the country to escape the fighting.

What does Ukraine have to do with it?

In September 2023, the American TV channel CNN reported that Ukrainian special services were probably behind the strikes on the Wagner PMC forces in Sudan. The strikes were allegedly carried out two days after the Wagnerites delivered a large batch of weapons to the African country.

CNN sources then claimed that the operation was carried out by "non-Sudanese military" and that "Ukrainian intelligence services are likely responsible."

Western media saw the Ukrainian trace in the video footage, which showed distinctive features of Ukrainian-style drone attacks. The drones, which are widely used by Ukrainians during the war against russia, were involved in at least eight strikes, with Ukrainian text visible on the drone controller.

In addition, experts conclude that the tactics used, namely the scheme of diving drones directly at the target, was very unusual for Sudan.

That was the end of the topic of the Ukrainian trace in the attacks against the Wagnerites in Sudan.

Already in October, the Ukrainian newspaper Babel, citing sources, reported that new evidence had emerged of the involvement of Ukrainian special services in operations on the African continent.

According to the source, Ukrainian special forces are indeed involved in attacks on Wagnerites in Sudan. The presence of Ukrainian security forces in the war in Sudan was confirmed by sources in intelligence circles. They provided video footage of the fighting as evidence.

Below is a screenshot from the same video. It shows an alleged Ukrainian sniper working on targets in Sudan.

Another video also shows the operation of FPV drones and fire contact with the enemy.

It is worth noting that earlier the Chief of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov said that "Ukraine will destroy russian war criminals anywhere in the world, wherever they are."

We remind you! In September, Ukraine celebrated the Day of Military Intelligence, on the occasion of which Visit Ukraine told about the most successful operations of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine in recent years. Read more about it here.
