The BBC has published a list of 100 women from around the world who inspired and influenced the world in 2023. The authors of the project note that this year's list includes women who are actively working to address climate change and implement measures to adapt to its consequences.

In the context of Ukraine, the list includes women who have inspired by their work in light of the Ukrainian people's resistance to russian aggression. Among them are three Ukrainian women.

Here's a look at the Ukrainian women on this year's list of the world's most influential women.

Three Ukrainian women named to BBC's Woman of the Year list

Among the Ukrainian women who became known for their activities during the confrontation with russian aggression are: writer Oksana Zabuzhko, climate policy advisor Iryna Stavchuk, and children's rights advocate Olena Rozvadovska.

Oksana Zabuzhko is the author of more than 20 literary works, including fiction, poetry and journalism. She is considered one of the most prominent writers and intellectuals in Ukraine. Her books have been translated into 20 languages and have received numerous national and international awards. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of russia, Zabuzhko has become a true cultural ambassador in the West, actively promoting Ukrainian culture and spreading the Ukrainian position in the world.

Olena Rozvadovska is the initiator of the Voices of Children charity foundation. The foundation's mission is to provide psychological support to children affected by the hostilities, as well as to protect their rights, help with evacuation and provide access to education, etc. Since the russian invasion, Rozvadovska and her foundation have become one of the most respected advocates for the rights of young Ukrainians both in Ukraine and abroad. Today, the foundation employs more than 100 psychologists in 14 centers and provides a free hotline. The Foundation has successfully helped tens of thousands of children and their parents.

Iryna Stavchuk is a climate policy expert who has recently started working with the independent philanthropic movement European Climate Fund. At this foundation, she focuses on developing Ukrainian programs aimed at creating environmentally friendly and climate-resilient solutions for the country's post-war recovery. From 2019 to 2022, she served as Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources. Stavchuk is a co-founder of two environmental NGOs: Center for Environmental Initiatives "Ecodia" and the Association of Kyiv Cyclists (U-Cycle). In addition, she is responsible for coordinating the activities of regional civil society groups dealing with climate change.

As you know, the 100 Women project was created in 2013 as an annual initiative to recognize the contribution of 100 inspiring and influential women to the world. In 2022, the list included eight prominent Ukrainian women who have distinguished themselves in various spheres of society. Among them were First Lady Olena Zelenska, paramedic Yulia Payevska (Taira), advocate for the rights of people with disabilities Yulia Sachuk, human rights activist Oleksandra Matviychuk, mathematician Maryna Vyazovska, journalist Kristina Berdinskykh, pediatrician Iryna Kondratova, and politician and volunteer Yana Zinkevych.

We are proud of our Ukrainian women for their exceptional achievements and great contribution to various fields of life. Your abilities and strength of character serve as a great example for others, inspiring their own development and recognizing the importance of women's contribution to society!

We remind you! Earlier, Time magazine published a list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023. Find out more about which Ukrainians made it to this year's list and who was there in 2022.
